Night had fallen when Y/n made it to her house. Looking for the keys in her bag, she was oblivious that someone was waiting for her at the porch stairs startling and making her drop the keys along with a scream.
"Where were you?" He asked in a flat voice giving her a judging stare. He was sitting on the step bending a bit to the front, resting his elbows over his thighs, and strands of his hair were covering his face.
"You want to give me a heart attack, or what? Geez..." Her palm on her chest felt her racing heartbeat and let out a long sigh trying to calm herself. After picking up the keys from the ground, she went and sat beside him and bumped lightly his arm with hers playfully. "I kind of missed you, Kei."
He looked up at the starry sky avoiding her cute smile to hide his excitement by seeing her and the flush she caused in him. "I called you several times, but you didn't pick up. I came to check on you." Baji didn't want to tell her how much he miss hearing her voice, that's why he was desperate to talk to her.
"Sorry for worrying you." Linking her arm with his, she approached his body to feel the warmth, rested her head on his shoulder, and also held his hand intertwining fingers. He tensed at first but no longer after he rest his head on hers and started rubbing his thumb on her hand. "My phone's battery is dead. I went to grab lunch, took out Pah's dog for a walk, we went to a park, and guess what?"
She told him that their friends were on good terms again and he, proud of himself, show off to her that he had approved his tests at school.
"I'm so glad your grades had improved. You know that I can help you whenever you need it, right? Like old times."
"We aren't in the same grade anymore, and you have a lot of other things to do."
"Kei, I can always spare time for you." She clung more to his arm.
"You always do more than you should and manage to make it look easy, that's one of the reasons I..." His smile faded and he halted his words right on time.
It was hilarious how much he hated her at first, she was the typical know-it-all and goody-girl, annoying him every time he stole their classmates' lunch or try to pick a fight with innocent people because he was bored. What a surprise when he found her picking a fight with an older student for making fun of one of her friends, more unexpected was that he took the blame for beating the guy so she wouldn't get in trouble with the teachers. After that kind gesture, she became more nagging.
"I didn't ask for your help." His face showed nothing more than displease.
"I don't recall asking for help either the other day. Now shut up, I'm going to help you pass this exam."
Not caring if she had other tasks to do like her own studying, attending the scholar clubs, or being the rep, she would always find time for tutoring him. It became a habit.
Getting along was easier till the point they started to like each other company. Baji soon discovered she wasn't that annoying, she was amusing, and had a pleasing time with her, maybe more than he foresaw. He fell head over heels for her even for the things he used to hate, and the feeling only grew more.
After years he was about to tell her he loves her, but something stopped him. She deserves the best, and he was trying to be the best for her. Until that moment comes he wouldn't say those words, they were too valuable to say at such a random moment.
"That's one of the reasons I don't want to bother you. You don't know when it's enough. If I need help I'll tell Chifuyu, he never has anything to do, anyway. You shouldn't worry, okay?"
She looked up at him suspiciously but let it pass. "Whatever, then. I wanted to spend more time with you, but if you prefer being with him I can't stop you." Crossing her arms and looking to the other side, she faked an offended tone.
