"Halt, Human!"

The human child tried to keep walking past Papyrus but was stopped again.

"HEY!" he yelled extraordinarily. "Quit moving while I'm talking to you! I, the Great Papyrus, have some things to say. First: you're a freaking weirdo!"

The human ("What IS their name? I don't think they ever told me...") stood expressionless, staring down the skeleton with a dangerous glint in their eye. It confused him.

"Not only do you not like puzzles," Papyrus continued, "but the way you shamble about from place to place... the way your hands are always covered in dusty powder. It feels... like your life is going down a dangerous path. However! I, Papyrus, see great potential within you! Everyone can be a great person if they try! And me, I hardly have to try at all!!!"

Papyrus cackled giddily. The human rolled their eyes, taking multiple steps forward.

"Hey, quit moving!" he whined. "This is exactly what I am talking about!"

Papyrus drew himself up and addressed the human grandly.

"Human! I think you are in need of guidance! Someone needs to keep you on the straight and narrow! But worry not! I, Papyrus, will gladly be your friend and tutor! I will turn your life right around!"

Once again, the human advanced.

"I see you are approaching. Are you... offering a hug of acceptance? Wowie!! My lessons are already working! I, Papyrus, welcome you with open arms!"

"NO!"

Within seconds, Papyrus was tackled down to the ground, just before the human slashed something metallic and sharp at the air where he'd once stood. All they managed to hit was the air.

"Papyrus you need to run," Sans growled.

"S-Sans? What are you--"
"Frisk is dangerous, they want to hurt you just like they did to everyone else they've found. I can't let that happen, now RUN!"

Too shaken to question anything he had just heard, Papyrus scrambled to his feet and ran, hiding behind a nearby tree. He couldn't hear a thing, but he saw it all.

He was wrong about Sans being so lazy. His brother was powerful. He knew that now, watching him throwing attack after attack at the human - Frisk. Every slash of their knife. Every dodge, from both Sans and Frisk. Even the special move his brother bragged about so often, the one that supposedly stopped anyone. The two came to a standstill.

"Please let this work, please let this work, please let this work," Papyrus found himself whispering. If he had a heart, it would have been pounding. It felt like time itself stopped. It was working. Frisk wasn't moving. They couldn't if they tried, it wasn't their turn. It was working.

Until it wasn't.

"Heh... heh... h a  h a  h a..."

Chara had done it. Sans had broken all the rules just to keep them down but they'd done it. They got in that hit, that one critical attack, despite it being his turn.

"I... feel like a bicycle..." Sans muttered, trying to stand up. "I'm... "two-tired"... to keep... going...."

Chara scoffed. Huffing and puffing, clutching his wound, choking and coughing up blood, (...somehow) he still managed to squeeze out one last joke.

"Look kid... whatever you do... I beg you..."

He looked up to face them, blood dripping from his mouth onto the snow.

"Don't... hurt... my... brother...."

With a puff of cold, snowy wind, Sans blew away into ash, his torn jacket in the snow a mere remnant of what he once was. Frisk thought they heard a scream off to their left.

Oh no... Papyrus... What have we done?!

Don't even think about it, this doesn't concern you anymore.

Chara looked at their knife, now covered in blood and ash, and sighed. It was such a pain to clean blood. I suppose the snow would work... but not here. It's too bloody here.

"Great work Chara!" a tiny voice cheered while they walked off. Chara looked down at their feet to see a little marigold flower smiling up at them. "I'm not sure what you told him earlier, but it sure worked! Now that he's out of the way, the judgement hall should be a walk in the park!"

"You don't think he'll be a problem?" Chara scoffed, still walking. Flowey had some okay ideas sometimes, but he wasn't the smartest.

"Who? That numbskull brother of his?" Flowey cackled madly, trying desperately to keep up. "Oh trust me, he's NEVER a problem. Now let's keep moving; we need to deal with the waterfall next."

And with that, Flowey was gone. Frisk thought they heard something off to the right, and instinctively checked it out to see Papyrus shaking, sheer terror and despair in his eyes. Chara looked back down at their knife, and then at the younger skeleton.

...Not worth my time.

Chara gave him a quick nod and kept walking, turning the corner to clean the knife they'd dirtied.
