Train Wreck - James Arthur

Draco Malfoy x Reader

It all came down to this. All the students and educators of Hogwarts stood in front of the school. Voldemort and his death eaters stood across the courtyard, far away from them, but not far enough that they couldn't hear each other. Not that it would make a difference. Everyone could feel their hearts beating like drums. The silence was deafening. But not for long. "Harry Potter is dead!" A wave of laughter erupts from Voldemort and his followers. It was stomach-turning. The fear that they felt was only intensified by the coldness of the group standing across from them.

"And now is the time to declare yourself... Come forward and join us... or die." As if the scene wasn't intense enough already, this statement scared everyone. Everyone looks around the crowd, wondering if there was anyone who really wanted to leave. No one moves an inch, making them feel slightly more confident. "Draco," Lucius calls with his hand outstretched. Y/n could feel her heart sink further as she scanned the crowd frantically for Draco. She couldn't see him through the crowds of people. "Draco, come," Narcissa insists. Y/n excuses her way through crowds, trying to have a better look at where Draco was. No matter where she moved, she still couldn't see him. They had gotten separated inside the school. Draco, on the other hand, was looking from side to side.

He waited for someone to stop him. He waited for someone to tell him not to go. But no one did. He figured maybe he should. After all, it was where his parents were. Maybe the people he thought were his friends didn't really care about him. Maybe no one did. He takes one more look around, remembering all of the faces on the side he was about to betray, before he walks down the stairs, making his way to his parents.

Finally, y/n spots him when he steps out from the crowd. She sprints towards him. "Draco! Don't!" His head quickly darts to the left in the direction of the most beautiful, claiming voice he could've heard in this moment. For a second, he feels relief seeing her running towards him. She stops in front of him, her body barely inches from his, taking his hands in hers.

"Please don't. You don't have to go," she tells him. He smiles in sadness, looking down at her. She cared about him. "They're my parents. I have to. You could come with me. We wouldn't have to fight. You'd be safe," he whispers to her. She shakes her head. "They're wrong. What they're doing is wrong. You don't have to go," she argues, practically begging him.

She couldn't fight against him, but she couldn't fight for the other side. She couldn't join Voldemort. Not after he killed her parents. It was her mission to protect the last of the people she loved from him. To avenge her parents. It's what she's wanted for so long. She would always fight for Hogwarts, but if it came down to it, she could never hurt Draco. She loves him more than he could ever know. And him, her.

Who would've thought? Draco in love with a Gryffindor. She sighs, scared that she won't get through to him. "As long as there's at least one person worth fighting for, no cause is hopeless. All I want to know is, am I that person," she asks, hoping that he would pick up on the fact that she loved him. She hoped that she meant to him what he meant to her.

He stared down into her pleading eyes. He watched the small rain drops roll down her face and damp hair. Her fitting, maroon colored, long sleeved shirt was already wet from the rain and she was shivering through her thick, black, skinny jeans. Even her socks were wet through her boots from the puddles she ran through to get to him in time.

His heart skips a beat seeing her like this. The most beautiful thing he had ever seen. His heart ached at her words, knowing that she was the only person to ever truly care for him. His savior. The only reason he refrained from picking on anyone and being a worse person than he already thought he was. She was always the one who helped him see the light. So he knew the answer to her question.
