'Ello 😐 So... as the chapter title says... I'm brain dead.💀 I can't think of anything to write about, so whatever lovely people are reading this... suggestions? Anyone?

That bit was short as hell, so here's an essay about a book I read for school...

In the novel, Darius the Great is not Okay, there is a theme of acceptance. Darius feels he is not accepted because of multiple reasons, but a main reason is his family. There are examples such as his father judging Darius's weight, his mother not teaching him Farsi, and his sister, Laleh, being more Farsi, yet more popular and accepted than he was.

The first example family was a big obstacle for Darius was his father, Stephen Kellner. His father could be a little harsh at times. Because Darius's father was harsh, Darius began to believe that his father was disappointed in him. " 'You know, if you just stood up for yourself, they'd leave you alone.' "(Pg. 13) After Stephen Kellner had told Darius this, Darius felt slightly insecure and as if he were a disappointment.

The second example family was a major obstacle for Darius was his mother. While his mother was very encouraging, she did not teach him Farsi. Because Darius was never taught Farsi, he began to believe he was not Persian enough. "The truth was, my Farsi was abysmal. I never really learned growing up. 'I didn't think you'd ever use it' Mom told me when I asked her why." (Pg. 20) This quote is evidence for my reasoning that Darius never learned Farsi.

The third and final example family was a large obstacle for Darius was his sister, Laleh. Laleh was only in second grade, but she was already taught Farsi. "She was only in second grade, with an even more Persian name than mine, and yet she was way more popular than I was."(Pg 16) This quote shows that Darius was insecure about not being Farsi enough when his sister, Laleh, was more Farsi than he, and more popular.

In conclusion, Darius had a very hard time feeling accepted largely because of his family members. While his family was a major reason, he also got in his own head, and didn't communicate with others. This can be applied to real life, because if a friend, or anybody in general, is going through a hard time or feeling like they aren't accepted, it is very likely that they won't want to reach out for help. Not reaching out and communicating with others is a very big reason why so many people are insecure, and/or don't feel like they are accepted by those around.
