When we finally got to the hospital, I jumped out of the helicopter and helped the paramedics put the guys on the waiting gurneys. "Ma'am, we're going to take them to the ER and maybe the OR if we need to surgically remove the bullets or correct anything. But we don't know this for sure until the ER doctors check them out." The main paramedic guy said before he jogged off to catch up with the rest of the paramedics as they hurried the guys away.
"Okay." I quietly called after him as he disappeared around a corner.
"Cal, you okay?" Sean came up behind me. I turned and found only him standing there. Mike must've gone somewhere else to get the cuts patched up.
"No, I'm not okay, but let's get you fixed up." I smiled tightly. Sean looked like he was about to say something else, but he sighed and agreed with me.
As we were walking through the halls of the hospital trying to find the floor that Sean could get his shoulder fixed on, he stopped me. "What's wrong?" I asked as he pulled me to the side of the busy hallway.
"While I'm getting my shoulder popped back into place, will you call Erika for me?"
"Sean, she's your wife! She'll want to hear this from you, not me."
"Cal, I don't think she'll want to be on the phone with me while I'm getting my shoulder joint rearranged."
"Okay, okay, fine. I'll call her." I sighed and tried to dig my phone out of my pocket.
We started walking again. It took a minute, but we finally found the area of the hospital where the doctors would pop Sean's shoulder back into place. I don't know why hospitals were so confusing, but this one definitely was. "I'll be right out here if you need me." I paused at the door that the doctor had told Sean to go in.
"Okay, thanks. Please don't freak Erika out."
"And yet another reason why you should've called her yourself." I snorted. Sean shot me a warning look and I just rolled my eyes. "I know, I won't freak her out! If I did, I'd probably have a panic attack of my own." I smiled weakly.
"Thanks, Cal." Sean nodded and walked into the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
I dropped myself heavily into one of the chairs and called Erika. It took a couple rings before she finally picked up. "Calliegh? What's up? You do realize it's like three in the morning, right?" Her sleepy voice came from the other end of the line. I feel bad about having to tell her the news, but Sean's too much of a wimp to do it himself. But at least I'm telling her that Sean's awake, I don't know if I'll be able to tell the others.
"Yeah, um, something's happened." I blurted and slapped myself in the forehead. That totally came out wrong! I'm just going to feels her out now. Smooth move, Calliegh, smooth move.
"Calliegh. What happened?" She said lowly from the other end. I could tell that she was wide awake now. "I swear if this is one of your jokes, I will seriously kill you."
"It's not, I promise. Just please get down to LA General."
"I'm on my way." She said before she hung up on me. I didn't even get the chance to tell her Sean was okay.
But I'm honestly glad that she hung up when she did, though. Right after the call dropped, Sean yelled in pain from the other side of the door. I was so caught up in the call that I hadn't even noticed that the doctor had gone in. I winced and dropped my face into my hands to hide from the reality of the world.
A few minutes later, a doctor came out of the room and stopped in front of me. "Are you here for Mr. Cimino?"
"Yes, sir." I nodded and stood up.
