The water trickled down my window as we pulled into the nearest gas station after getting an alarm about a tornado warning southwest of us coming head on at us. "Kyla,"

I look around the car adjusting my eyes confused at that moment. Where are we? I yawn and stratch my arm feeling a tiny itch go up my arm. "Yes," I yawn with exhaustion taking over my body feeling like a toddler.

"We are here," My mom gently tells us gently. My brother looks around and shrugs his shoulder.

"Oh brother," I say chuckle. My borther gives me an angry look.

"Oh sister," My brother rolls his eyes as he puts his attention back to his phone texting his friends back at our home. That I missed dearly. California. The state I wanted to be in. Nobody wanted to go on this stupid trip except Papa and mom. They always insisted on going on trips to places around the United States. We have been from the heel of Florida to the tip top of Wiscousin where it was bitter cold almost freezing your fingers off. I hated coming to the mid west. It was always tornado this and tornado that. I scoff thinking about these stupid states. Now we where stuck in the middle of a storm in Kansas. I laugh a bit thinking about the Wizard of Oz. What a joke that story is.

"Kyla," Papa says snapping my away from my deep thoughts about our home town. "We need to go in now,"

I nod my head. "Okay," I let out opening the car down with a small snap noise unlocking the door and pushing on it making a squeaky noise. I flip my long brunette hair out of my face.

"Come on Kyla you are like the slowest person possible," My brother comments. Papa let's out a small chuckle hidding the laugh in his sleeve, but failing making me shot him a dirty look.

"Shut up Kyle," I shot back at him. Papa keeps laughing my mom elbows him in the chest only making him laugh harder.

"Okay knock it off you two," Mom points between the two of us. I smile as I look at my little brother Kyle.

"Yea Kyle," I smirk at him.

"Kyla," My mom warns walking away from the vehicle and walking into the gas station. I roll my eyes before following my mom. Kyle kicks a rock around. I turn around making my hair slide off of my shoulder.

"You coming?" I ask in a sweet voice looking into his hazel eyes. He nods walking up to me. I start walking into the gas station.

"Mom?" I ask looking around the dark room rubbing my eyes. I see the light flicking on the other side of the room near the cash register shinning against the sliver color all over the register.

"Yes," She says from the other side of the room. I tilt my head towards a black figure in the dark shaded part of the room. The figure steps toward me.

"Time for you to die," a deep daring voice says walking toward me. The light flicks onto a man holding a knife in his hand.

"Where is my m-om and dad-dd?" I ask as my inner scared comes out and I was obviously showing it all over my face because the man grinned while looking at me.

"Come with me child," the man waved his hands wanting me to dare to step toward him. I stand up straight next to him with my lip quivering with fear. I didn't want to die now. Not yet I wasn't ready for this.

We walk down a hall that had red wall paper from the top of the high cellings to the floor making me shiver with fear. "Where are we going?" I ask with a frof stuck in my throat making my words soubd like I was dieing. I felt a hand slither around my waist and a nail dig into my skin making me want to yelp, but I didnt dare to do so.

"Now you will do as I say," he says pulling my closer to him. I shake my head feeling hot tears come down my face. "Good," he whispered in my ear he nibbled on my ear before dragging me into a room where a puddle of blood sat. I gulp knowing this would be my last breath and I would never be able to tell Kyle I was sorry for everything I did and Papa and my mom that I love them. I take a deep breath.

"Wake up," I whisper in a velvety voice. "This is not real,"

I squint looking around the room my back was stiff and I couldn't move feeling numb everywhere. "Mom?" I ask looking around the room. I stand up feelinf my knees lock, but I caught myself against the counter. "Mom," I say again looking around to see a room with nobody, but me here. "Guys,"

I felt my hands get sweaty to the touch. "Oh no," I whisper walking toward the very large window that was in the front of the mini store. There wasnt a single car in the parking lot. I had just be left in the middle of Kansas the state I hated the most with my parents nowhere in sight. Thus was going to be one long journey. I take my first step toward the dangerous journey. This could be a life or death situation. I would live and make it to California or I would die here in Kansas. Life or Death.
