Chapter 11

"It will be all right, my dear," he assured her and kissed her gently on her forehead. Leila took a deep breath and Loki took her hand as they stepped into the throne room. The royal family of Alfheim turned to face them and she caught sight of Faye; she quickly approached Leila and hugged her tightly.

"I'm sorry, Leila, for causing you so much trouble," she said softly.

"Enough!" commanded Odin, and the friends broke apart.

"Allfather, we had no idea until you informed us," the King of Alfheim told him. Leila looked to Faye, who just stared sadly at the ground. "It seemed that my daughter planned this, so we will do everything we can to make amends."

"It was an insult to Asgard and I cannot accept that, so we will continue the plan to unite our kingdoms," Odin said harshly, and Frigga looked at him in shock.

Loki stepped protectively in front of Leila, as if to protect her from Odin, and spoke, "Father, what do you mean?"

"The marriage between my son Loki and Princess Faye will take place." -Leila gasped as did Loki, Faye, Thor, and Frigga.

"Odin-," Frigga broke off as he raised a hand.

"The maid will be tried for treason and deception and confined to her chambers until the trial and will not be allowed to see anyone." Loki pulled her closer to him as a group of Einherjians approached, summoning a dagger.

"She is my wife!" said Loki loudly, looking up at the Allfather.

"I will take care of that," Odin said. "Seize her." -One of the guards took a step toward her and it was clear to Loki that he could not win against her; there were too many. He turned to her and kissed her briefly. The kiss felt like a goodbye.

"I love you-" he broke off and she looked at him in confusion before he pushed her backwards and she fell through a portal. Leila landed on the ground and, when she opened her eyes, she was no longer in Asgard and Loki was gone.

"Who are you?" someone asked, and she looked around to see a dark-skinned man with a sign. He was not alone, however; there were other people standing around her.

"Where am I? Am I still in Asgard?" she began to ask frantically. She had to get back to Loki.

"Oh great! Another Asgardian!" said a man with a metal arm. A red-haired woman came up to her and helped her up.

"She doesn't seem like a threat," she said to the men. "I'm Wanda. And this is Sam." -She pointed to the man with the shield- "And the man with the metal arm is Bucky."

"Leila," she replied.

"Well Leila, you're not in Asgard anymore, you're in New York," Bucky replied. New York, that was on Midgard, right? She looked around in a panic and ran out of the building; the group followed her out, but she didn't care.

"Heimdall! Open the bifrost!" she shouted, but nothing happened.

"Heimdall?" asked Sam. "Thor said he died then and the Bifrost no longer exists after Asgard was destroyed."

Heimdall died? Asgard is gone? "That's not possible, I was just there. What about Loki?"

"Loki?" asked Wanda in confusion, furrowing her brow.

"My husband. What about him?" she asked.

"I'm sorry, but he was killed by Thanos years ago," Bucky explained, confused, and Leila gasped. Her eyes filled with tears as she shook her head frantically.

"That's not possible. I married him yesterday; he can't be dead, I just saw him." She felt as if the ground had been pulled out from under her feet. Leila collapsed, but was caught just in time by Bucky before she fell to the floor.

"Call Doctor Stange," Bucky said to Sam as her vision went black. When she regained consciousness, she was lying on a sofa, trying to understand what had happened. Loki. The portal. Midgard.

"Good you're awake." -She looked to a brown-haired man holding a coffee cup in his hand-"I'm Doctor Stephen Strange."

"I'm Leila," she explained, sitting up slowly.

"Sergeant Barnes told me about your situation." -He set his cup on the table and stepped toward her- "Have you ever heard of the multiverse, Leila?"
