"Alright, my little darling. Come on." I said to my Pomeranian Gigi as I got her out of the car.

With her in my arms, I walked up the steps to Kyle's front door and rang the doorbell. It wasn't a second before I heard Molly and Hank barking excitedly. Gigi wagged her tail and started barking as well.

"Hi, Y/N! Wow! Where are you going looking so smokin' hot?" Kyle asked me as soon as he opened the door.

I put Gigi on the floor so she could play with Molly and Hank.

"Hey, Canada! I'm having a date. I really appreciate you watching Gigi. She really doesn't like being alone." I replied as I gave him a hug in greeting.

"That's really not a problem. My two love to have the company of other dogs. You really do look stunning. I think it's the first time I've seen you in heels." Kyle said to me.

I blushed slightly and tugged at my blouse. His words, while nice to hear, made me nervous. It had been a while since I had last been on a date.

"Thanks, Kyle. Isn't it too much? Maybe I should go back home and change really quick," I said and quickly looked in the mirror that hung next to his door.

I was wearing black tight pants and a red low-cut blouse and high heels. He was right that I never wore high heels. I was usually more of a sneaker and jeans girl. And with my slicked back bun and red lipstick, I didn't feel quite like myself either.

"Don't sweat it, Y/N. You look great. That guy you're dating is really lucky." Kyle replied as he looked me up and down.

"Thanks. It's good to hear that. I should get going now. Thanks again for looking after Gigi. I'll pick her up in the morning because I don't know how late it's going to be. I owe you one, Canada. Have a nice evening," I said after a few seconds.

Then I hugged him again and saw him smile at me afterwards. I really didn't deserve a friend like him.

Kyle POV

Man, Y/N just looked so great tonight that I couldn't help but envy the guy she was going to meet-up with. To be honest I was annoyed with myself that I just couldn't get it together to ask her out myself. Somehow I had the feeling that I was not enough for her. And then I didn't want to put our friendship on the line.

But basically these were all excuses, because I was simply too cowardly to make a move. To distract myself, I put on a record and let the music play in the background while I watched the dogs play. It was funny how Molly and Gigi teamed up and playfully made life difficult for Hank.

When the doorbell rang an hour later, I was a little confused because I wasn't expecting anyone else tonight. I went to the door with the dogs in tow and was surprised to find Y/N waiting outside.

"Y/N? What are you doing here? What about your date?" I asked, surprised.

But then I noticed that Y/N looked like she was going to burst into tears at any moment. I pulled her into the house and put an arm around her shoulders.

"He stood me up! I feel so stupid. I sat there all alone at a table until I got fed up after 45 minutes and left. He didn't even have the decency to call me. On the way to the car, all I got was a text. Can you imagine? What a bastard." she explained to me as I led her to the sofa.

When Gigi saw her mommy she came over to us and Y/N immediately lifted her onto her lap. Without looking at me, she sniffled softly while petting the fluffy little dog.

"That must really be a huge jerk if he stands up a great woman like you, Y/N. And it's safe to say he didn't even deserve the chance to date you. I mean, look at you! You're drop-dead gorgeous and literally any man would be lucky to have such a jackpot by his side!" I babbled to cheer her up.

"Any man? So you mean including you?" she asked, setting Gigi down on the floor and then looking at me with wide eyes.

"Yes, I would, actually. I just never had the guts to ask you myself," I mumbled, avoiding looking at her.

"Are you saying you like me?" she wanted to know.

"You could say that." I confessed softly.

Then, without saying anything, she grabbed my chin and turned my head so I had to look at her. Y/N had a beautiful smile on her face and her eyes were sparkling. But this time not because of the tears she was trying not to let fall.

"That's good. That's really good, Kyle." she whispered, leaning her face toward me.

Then she closed the gap between us and placed her warm, plump lips on mine. My goodness, they were even softer than I had imagined. What started as a soft, slow kiss quickly developed into a deep and passionate one. To have her closer to me, I pulled her onto my lap in one smooth motion. My arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

"Maybe the night isn't lost after all." she whispered against my mouth as her fingers played with the hair on the back of my neck.

"The night has just begun..." I whispered back.
