Her fingers nearly melted into the smooth dough which took up some space in between flour, yeast and more ingredients spreading across the countertop as soft jazz played in the background.
Decorations meandered across the walls of the compound, several christmas trees had been set up and decorated. Yet the festively looking premises made a dispirited appearance since most of the earth's mightiest heroes left to spend this special time of the year with their families or friends, others said they'd return on Christmas Eve.
Which was tomorrow.
She pushed the loneliness that bubbled up inside her away, longing for a rolling pin at the other end of her working surface when all of a sudden, barely audible footsteps reached her consciousness.
"Loki?"
"Huh?"
"You didn't leave with your brother?"
"I fear I haven't. Didn't he announce he'll be back soon anyway?"
The god simply shrugged as he spoke whilst settling down in an armchair near the countertop and opening the book he brought.
Her gaze kept lingering on him for a while, observing his majestic features in silence. The way his eyes scurried across the pages, soaking in the words written on those. How his slender fingers flipped them and...
"Thought you were baking whatever you call it", he caught her in the act, not taking his glance off the book. Yet a hint of a smile was visibly creeping its way onto his lips though he surely tried to suppress it.
"Thought you were busy reading", she scoffed with a grin across her face as well before returning her attention to the dough, now spreading it into a big rectangle after dusting her working surface with flour.
Cinnamon rolls weren't the first dish one thought of when it came to this time of the year, yet throughout the past years, they'd become a tradition as she had always made them for everyone keeping her company on the compound on Christmas.
Before reaching for the cinnamon filling she'd previously prepared, her glance wandered to the reading prince once again, now catching him curiously inspecting her actions, despite his previous apparent disinterest.
A chuckle escaped [Name]'s lips, causing Loki to lift his head to glance at her.
"What is it exactly that you're making?" he now asked, apparently noticing how there was no point in pretending to be focusing on his book.
"They're called cinnamon rolls", she started, smiling as she was spreading the cinnamon filling across the dough. "You'll see why in a second."
Under the inquisitive gaze of the prince, she carefully rolled up the dough before cutting it into slices and placing those on a baking tray.
"See", she said as she lifted the last slice so the swirl was clearly visible for him. "Cinnamon roll."
Loki's eyes followed her as she placed the baking tray in the oven, then setting a timer for a quarter of an hour.

"Here they are!" [Name] proudly announced as she placed the finished batch of cinnamon rolls on the working surface. In the meantime, she'd prepared the frosting she was now spreading on top of the baked goods.
Once finished, her glance wandered into the direction of Loki, who had continued his careful watching in the meantime.
"They'll still need to cool for a few minutes, but I'll be down to enjoy one with you if you'd like", she uttered with a smile. "So?"
"I fear I haven't got another choice, have I?" the god answered, frowning as he glanced at the baked goods.
"It's your choice, yet my offer will remain", she chuckled before turning her attention to the cleaning of the kitchen, not paying any heed to him for the time being and causing him to return to his book.
Yet he was snapped out of his thoughts a few moments later by a plate being set on a small coffee table next to the armchair he was sitting in.
[Name] settled onto a smaller stool she'd arranged next to the table just a moment ago, a second plate with a second cinnamon roll being placed on her lap."You go first!" she exclaimed, excitement bubbling up inside her as she watched him place his book aside to grasp the plate and gently pick up the cinnamon roll, contemplating it a last time before finally taking a bite.
"Not bad", he uttered after he swallowed his first bite.
"Not bad?" she repeated, faking disbelief.
"Not bad. Quite delicious, actually", he admitted with a reticent smile before taking another bite.
Her internal excitement had turned into thousands of butterflies as she watched him enjoy the sweet flavours exploding on his tongue.
She now took a bite herself, and as much as she didn't want to brag, she'd mastered her cinnamon rolls once again, and they weren't only quite delicious.
Silence ruled for a couple of minutes as both the girl and the god were enjoying the sweetness within the air as well as on their tongues. Yet she broke the silence as she noticed his eyes were lingering somewhere near her lips.
"What?"
"Oh, nothing. You've simply got something. Some frosting. Or cinnamon. Can't tell."
As a response to that, she wiped her mouth almost frantically, then glancing up at him again. "Gone?"
"Not quite, no."
Loki rose from his seat, approaching and bending down in front of her, their faces only inches apart now. "Right there", he breathed before his lips settled onto her lower lip.
A surprised gasp escaped her mouth before she was able to figure what had happened just now, yet then she reciprocated the kiss, only for him to
separate their lips seconds later."Cinnamon", he whispered, smiling.
