It was a sunny day in Florida and Dream was stuck in class.

Ms. Smith was droning on about some topic or another. Honestly, all the information was going through one ear and out the other. He could barely concentrate because of his ADHD and the fact that it was Friday and the last period was not helping at all.

Dream was currently doodling in his notebook when he heard his name being called.

"Dream?" Ms. Smith was looking at him expectantly.

He studied the board, trying to figure out what he was supposed to do and hoping he wouldn't get in trouble. Again. "Sorry, what was the question?" Dream was forced to ask after a moment.

His teacher audibly sighed in disappointment. "Answer number 7."

Dream mumbled, "I dunno know." He shrugged his shoulders after finishing his sentence.

"Stay behind after class, Dream."

He slumped down in his seat and continued to not pay attention, except this time it was intentional and out of spite.

Finally, the bell rang, others rejoiced and chatted to their friends as they left the room, excited for the weekend, while dread pooled in Dream's gut, scared to get in trouble for what seemed like the thousandth time.

He didn't want his mom to be disappointed in him.

Dream just wanted his mom to be happy, he tried his best in school, he really did. He didn't want to be a burden, but he felt as if he already failed at that. The green-eyed boy didn't mean to cause his mom or step-dad stress, but he knew he did anyways, this was just one more thing to add to the list.

Callahan, a boy in his class, looked back at him as he was near the door about to leave. Callahan was selectively mute and, unlike Dream, was passing all of his classes with flying colours so the teachers didn't feel a need to try to get him to talk in class or, surprisingly, do anything else ableist.

The dirty blond could tell that Callahan was trying to ask him if he was alright and he waved his hand to show his classmate that he could handle it.

Callahan hesitated and glanced back again before he must've decided it was okay because he exited the classroom, leaving Dream alone with Ms. Smith.

Ms. Smith was an odd teacher, to say the least. She had started working at Dream's school only a few weeks before, after their previous teacher had a sudden untimely accident and had to take the rest of the year off. As soon as Ms. Smith arrived, she immediately disliked him, always picking on him in class and never taking his ADHD into account when teaching.

"It's been very hard to get you alone, you know," she commented with a bit of a lisp she had always had on the 's', walking closer at the same time.

"I guess." He replied, thinking of the amount of time he spent in a group of friends, even if he wasn't that close to them, just to have a bit of company.

"Dream Taken."

"Yes?" Dream asked, picking his nails, honestly confused as to why she said his name randomly and unprompted. When he got no response, he looked up and saw an empty classroom. At least, he thought it was empty until he felt something.

Breathing at the back of his neck.

"Ms. Smith?" He breathed out, too scared to turn around.

"You shouldn't have left that goat boy, Callahan, leave you." Ms. Smith whispered into his ear menacingly.

"I'm just going to see him later." He laughed, trying to convince himself this was normal and choosingly ignoring the part about Callahan being a goat boy, whatever that meant.
