Chapter 1- The New Girl

H A R R Y

My heart pounded in my chest as my feet padded against the pavement. It was 5:30 and Des always wants me back home before 5:00. I open the door to our rundown house as quitetly as I could, hoping Des wouldn't hear me. But the draft running through the house made the door slam shut. I crept up to my room, Gemma was sleeping peacefully as if nothing was wrong with this world. Fuck every thing was wrong. I could hear Des wobble up the stairs in his drunken state. I quickly exsited the room so he wouldn't desturb Gemma. Gemma was only five, she didn't need to worry about my problems.
"Where were ya boy?" Des yelled at my face, as his foul breath wafted over me. I didn't answer, he didn't deserve an answer.

My mother passed away when I was born, and Des didn't know how to deal with it, so he turned to drinking all his problems away. One night he was so drunk he made another woman pregnant, I don't even know her name, and she gave birth to Gemma. Des left her and took Gemma, he doesn't even have a heart. Des doesn't even deserve to be called Dad, because he never was one, and he left Gemma and I to defend for ourselves, whilst he was an abusive drunk who was thousands of dollars in dept, making me pay for his expenses once I got a job.

"Why are you home late?" He yelled again in my face. I just stared past him and the evil smirk on his face.
"Football Practice," I blankly answered.
"Well than why are you home so late?" He growled again as he punched my stomach. I didnt answer, as he kept punching my stomach and sides repeatedly. I was going to feel this in the morning. He grabbed me by the collar and threw one last punch at my nose, causing it to bleed. I scurried out from under his grip as I ran to my room, and locked the door. Gemma lied on my bed as I lied next to her. I stroked her hair until I fell asleep.

When I woke up, Gemma was still asleep, so I tucked her in while I went to the bathroom. I stared at my relfection in the mirror. My curls were a mess, my nose had a purple bruise outlining it and my stomach had bruises from last week fading slightly and the fresh bruises from yesterday. I wish my life wasn't like this.

I took a long shower and got some oat bars for Gemma. I had some toast and got ready for school. Des was slumped across the couch with a smashed beer bottle at his feet.
Genma woke up, and called my name. I got her showered, then I braided her hair and chose a cute pink dress for her to wear to Day Care. She had a big smile on her pink lips and looked so happy. I smiled down her making me more happy.
"You look beautiful," I said softly bending down and stroking her face. She giggled and hopped in the car ready for me to take her to Day Care.

I walked down the school halls, and people were staring and whispering at me. Shit they probably saw the bruises on my face and assumed I got in a fight. I hate being fucking popular, people know all your personal shit or make up rumors, and they expect you to bully certain people. But I need to be appart of the football team cause thats my only chance to get into college through a scholarship. I pushed through people and made it too my locker. My friend Liam came up to me, he also was in the football team.

"Have you seen the new girl?" He asked
"No," I replied simply, im not one to get into many relationships, i have only been in two, but others assumed more.
Liam pointed to the end of the hall, and a blond hair girl stood putting her books in her locker, she had a short white dress on and had the most beautiful blue eyes. She is going to be popular and is going to get all the boys so I decided not to get involved with her.
"Shes cute, but shes going to get any guy she likes," I told Liam, as we headed to first period together.
We sat next to each other in the middle row, becase the back row was full, and of cause the beautiful blonde girl walked through the door and sat next to me.
