"I'm being transferred!?What do you mean!? I just got here and y'all are already trying to get rid of me?" I shouted the questions at my unit chief. Yelling at your boss is never a smart thing to do, but that realization came to late. After a few moments go by I stop pacing and look at the chief of my department. His face is calm as it always is when I go on one of my senseless rants. He knew I would react this way, that's why he's sitting behind his huge desk silently. Come on Peirce get your head together, stop acting like a brat! The rational voice in my head yelled at me. I take a deep breath and sit back down in the seat that I had jumped out of earlier.
"Finished yet Evelyn?" Chief Scott asked from the other side of the desk, raising an amused eyebrow at me. He gave me the same kind of look at home. "Yes sir I am, sorry for interrupting" I say back to my uncle. If you were to look at us side by side, you would never expect us to be family. His dark brown skin the complete contrast to my pale white skin. He was the color of dark chocolate and his eyes the color of . It's really no wonder my aunt fell for him after two weeks of knowing him, the man could have been a model.
When a drunk driver killed my parents 10 years ago, he and my aunt took me in and since then he's been like a father to me. He is why I wanted to become an agent, he is why I'm in this department right now. He caught the guy who hit and killed my parents, from that moment on I knew what I needed to do. I finished high school early and graduated the FBI's academy at 20 years old. That was 2 years ago, and now I'm being transferred.
"Evie you are only temporarily being moved, I signed you up to take on an undercover mission." I open my mouth to protest but he already has his hand up silencing me. "You are one of the best agents I have, and you also are the youngest. This makes you the perfect agent for the job. You will be going back to high school."
He paused for a moment, arching his brow in anticipation of another one of my famous meltdowns. I feel it boiling inside me, the need to rage and throw a fit, but I don't. I am a trained agent and I know better...some times. When I only give him silence as a response he continues on. "A young girl committed suicide a few days ago at a private high school near by, evidence points towards a possible rape and murder, this is the third in three months."
Oh shit, that's not what I was suspecting at all... "Wait I thought you said it was a suicide?" I asked him seriously, all rage I had now gone. "It was a staged crime scene, someone killed her and then tried to cover their tracks with a hangman's noose. In this private school there has been talk that she was raped and was about to expose her rapist before she was killed. We have narrowed the suspect pool down to know that the rapist either attends that same high school or even teaches there. The problem is, the school won't allow us to investigate any further into its teachers or students without a warrant. We are afraid that if we go into this with a warrant and with excessive force it will scare the rapist into hiding and we will never catch him. That's where you'll come in, you will need to gather information and as much evidence as possible. Something weird is going on at that school and it's your job to find out what it is." He says to me as he closes the file on his desk. I couldn't shake the feeling brewing in the pit of my stomach. This feeling wasn't going to go away until I solved this case and prevented more girls from dying. The words that came out of my mouth next surprised us both.
"When do I start?"
Uncle Scott smiles and walks over to me, "You start right now." He pulls me into a big hug and then escorts me out of his office and we make our way to one of the debriefing rooms and he gives me a new Identity."Evie you are now Olivia Hill, you are transferring to the private boarding school of Westview Texas. The Westview boarding school is going to be your new home until this case is solved. You are a senior this year, and your new age is 18 years old. I had them create a fake background as close to your real one as the could get. You will drive down there tonight in a special car we have set out for you, the registration on it and insurance all matches your new identity. In that car will be a hidden compartment for your gun and badge in case of an emergency."
All I could do was stare at the small picture on my new (fake) drivers license. They used my old drivers license photo from when I turned 18 so at least it wasn't that terrible of a picture. At 18 I learned how to control my auburn hair and put some make up on. They left my eyes marked blue and my height was the same 5'6 as it is on my real license.
"Here is your school uniform, and everything else you will need for high school dorm life." Uncle Scott said to me as he motioned to 3 huge stacks of boxes and suitcases. "Wait, I can't even pack my own clothes?" I asked, the bratty tone slipping out before I could catch myself. He chuckled and held up a smaller empty suit case for me to take. "You can take whatever you can fit in here."
I roll my eyes and take the bag from him. I'll go home and pack really fast I guess" I say over my shoulder as I walk out the door.
I packed faster than I thought I would, but I wanted to take more than that stupid little bag would fit. Sadly I only had enough room for a few of my favorite books, toiletries, a few pieces of clothing and my favorite heels. Sitting on my bed was a lonesome teddy bear that stared at me with glass eyes. My mom and dad gave it to me before they died, I know it's childish but I can't ever be away from it. So I shoved it into the bag and made my way back to the agency.Uncle Scott and two other agents are outside packing all of my new belongings into a beat up old black car. "No. Freaking. Way." I say as my mouth falls open. "Yes Freaking Way." My uncle replies to me in his best valley girl voice. "I thought you took that thing to the junkyard along time ago!" I say to him, not hiding the distain in my voice. "Of course not, the agency has had it this whole time, almost like it's been waiting for you!" He says again in that dumb valley girl voice. The car was old, black and beat up, but it was one I'd driven before. It was my very first car, a black slug bug with a line of cherry red on the doors.
This was my ride down memory lane, taking me back to hell. I hated high school the first time around and now I'm going to have to relive every part of it. I give my uncle a light punch on the shoulder and climb into my not so new car. "Here's your temporary cell phone, and I'll hold onto your real one." He says to me handing me the newest IPhone. Looking through the phone it has fake pictures of me with friends I've never met at a school I never went to. Only good thing is they put my music on here.
"Well, directions are in the GPS on the phone and the headmaster is expecting you when you arrive." With a kiss on my forehead, he shuts my car door and without another word he walks back inside. I check myself in the mirror, turn on my music and drive towards my new home...or to hell.
