*3 MONTHS LATER*

Karen's POV

"Annalise, it has been 3 months and this case is dragging. It wouldn't have to drag if Amber would just tell the truth and quit prolonging this situation. I just want to see my granddaughter, that's it. Why, pray tell is she being so difficult?" Karen asked

"That's what I'm trying to explain if you just calm down for 5 seconds." Annalise spoke

"I'm sorry." I replied as I sat in the chair

"According to Amber's attorney, Amber will not cooperate unless J. Drew tells the truth. Whatever that is. Amber won't even tell her attorney. Whatever this truth is, she is tighter lipped than the Secret Service in The White House." Annalise explained

*sends text*

*phone rings*

"Hey, mommy. I got your text, but J is driving right now. Everything okay?" Kierra asked

"Yeah, I just need the two of you to get here. Annalise is here." Karen spoke

"Okay, well we're 5 minutes away." Kierra replied

"Good see you soon." Karen spoke before hanging up

"Do you think J isn't telling you something?" Annalise asked

"I hope he isn't hiding anything. But I do want to ask him about that night he came home with his lip busted and eye bruised." Karen explained

"Yeah, well hopefully that's all that happened to him that night." Annalise spoke

*5 minutes later*

"Mommy, where are you?" Kierra called out as she walked in the house

"In my office." Karen replied

"Hey, Mommy, What's up Ma." Kierra and J spoke

"Hey, babies." Karen spoke

"Hey, Auntie Lise." They spoke

"What's going on Ma?"

"Okay, so we have been in this custody situation for 3 months and we haven't made any progress. All due on Amber's part. J Drew, I need your help." Karen spoke

"What's up Ma?" J asked

"I need you to tell Annalise everything that happened that night." Karen explained

"How is J telling us that will help us speed up the process?" Kierra asked

"Anything will help at this point." Karen replied

"J, what happened that night? I just need something to get the ball rolling." Annalise spoke

"I remember calling Amber for most of the day because I wanted to see Layeah. She never answered my calls. I figured she was busy because it was also Layeah's birthday, so I decided to just show up anyways. Time had gotten away from me and it was around 8 that night when I showed up. When I got there, Amber and I got into an argument and before you know it, I saw her mom lunge at me, and she attacked me with a bat." J explained

"What happened afterward?" Annalise asked writing everything down

"I didn't even try to defend myself, so I left. I knew if I came home with a busted lip and black eye, mama and Kierra would question me to no end. I didn't feel like talking so I went to the bar for a little bit and then I went to Walmart, grabbed some things to clean myself up and I slept in my car that night to clear my head." J continued

"Did you ever tell your mom and Kierra what happened?" Annalise asked

"I did. But I told them to not worry about it because I didn't want any more trouble." J replied
