Synopsis:

You've always had a crush on Nero, but your new friend V challenges your resolve.

Warnings:

Strong emotions, and depictions of panic attacks.

You've been in love with Nero for about a year now. It started shortly after you met and began working with him as a demon hunter.

Kyrie has always been a friend to you. Kind and caring. You understand why he loves her. A part of you loves her too. But you're not like Kyrie. She is soft and sweet and gentle. She smells like roses and lavender. She's the epitome of femininity and grace. She's nurturing, a natural homemaker. And once Nero described you as, "one of the guys."

You do your best to stuff down these feelings. You hide them away behind your best attempt at a tough exterior. One Nero can always easily weasel his way through. He's always trying to joke with you. Cheer you up in any way he can. Sometimes he'll even let you take his kills if he's feeling nice. He's a good friend.

But this only makes things worse. The aching feeling in your chest rises into your throat and it makes you want to cry. No one else seems to notice, no one except for, V. V noticed it the moment he saw the two of you together. The way you watched him, protected him, aided him. Followed his orders to follow V around like a chaperon.

"Isn't he in love with that singer?" V muttered to you as his eyes scanned the crumbling horizon before you.

"You mean Kyrie? Yeah, he is. ...why?" You eyed him curiously. A cruel smile pulled at his lips as his head nodded towards you. His deep green eyes cut through yours.

"A shame he doesn't love you." He mocked. Your cheeks ran hot the moment the words left his mouth. You began to sweat and your feet stuck to the ground, rendering you frozen in embarrassment and fear.

"Kyrie is... a good person. They deserve each other." You spoke with a shaking voice as you attempted to brush away the subject. But V wasn't done tormenting you. For what purpose you were unsure, perhaps he was just bored and tired of you following him around.

"But not you?"

"No. Not me." And with that things ended. Over your adventures of June 15th, V and yourself got more acquainted. What started out as a relationship based on mutual annoyance and inconvenience soon grew to playful banter and seamless battle. Your tension and chemistry grew into a small friendship. Quickly the two of you worked together to bring down Urizen. You were the one to hold V as he crumbled apart and limped to the finish line.

You knew V had to return. He told you everything, hid his face from sight as he cried over his regret and guilt. His sorrows were evident in his voice when he hid his features. He didn't understand when you first held him. When you were kind and caring and understanding despite his rude behavior towards you. But soon he grew to understand and value your affections. Even as he fell to pieces before your very eyes.

"Thank you, my friend. Our time together has been a delight." He gifted you a warm smile, fanning the flames of your anguish.

"Thank you, V. Being your friend is an honor." You smiled back through the tears. You couldn't help it. Suddenly your new friend was leaving you forever. You may have only met a month ago but after everything, you felt you had a connection with V you didn't have with anyone else. You let the tears fall heavy down your face as you watched him disappear before your eyes.

You were convinced you would never see V again. Free to live your lives as you did before. Things were different with Dante gone. Devil May Cry was taken over by Lady and Trish who often employed Nero and yourself. As the first year passed you found yourself thinking about V a lot. Sometimes at night when you laid in bed you could still hear the sound of his voice softly cooing a line of poetry, or growling a far too complicated insult.
