Stalking down the hall of the Avengers Tower in her skyscraper heels, black pencil skirt and a sleeveless royal blue silk blouse Aurora Donahue had a man on her mind. Specifically Tony Stark. Today was supposed to be her first day working for the team and he hadn't even bothered to show up for her introductory meeting. Originally she was to meet with Director Fury, but Tony had insisted that he be the one there this morning. Brushing past agents and office workers Rory's hazel eyes flick across the name plates by each of the doors as she passes them looking for the main conference room.
She'd had an appointment scheduled with Tony forty minutes ago down in his office, but he hadn't shown up. This hadn't been the first time he'd stood her up and it wouldn't be the last. But today of all days? Nope, she wasn't going to put up with his forgetfulness on such an important day for her. He knew what this meant for her after all of her hard work. She hadn't made the sacrifices, the compromises and told lies to save her country and unknowingly the world for her to be ignored.
Just ahead she saw the man himself through the glass wall of the conference room FRIDAY had told her he was in. He was standing at the head of a long table and was talking to a room full of important people. People who were to be her new teammates. Rory knew she shouldn't make a scene like this but he'd pissed her off beyond measure. Clenching her jaw she quickened her pace making the light taps of her heels sound like rapid angry clicks across the tiles.
Pulling open the door to the conference room she ignored everyone sitting around the table and with a single minded purpose strutted right up to Tony. He shut his mouth and looked down at her with surprise as she stopped in front of him. Raising a dark eyebrow she crossed her arms under her breasts and popped out a hip. "Anthony Edward Stark where the hell have you been? You were supposed to meet me forty-five minutes ago in your office!" His eyes widen even more at her using his full name.
"I'm sorry, Audrey. As you can see I got caught up in a meeting." He nodded his head to the other people in the room behind her. Glancing over her shoulder she saw the shocked and amused faces of the Avengers. Pursing her lips Rory rolled her eyes before turning back to Tony.
"Not good enough, Stark. We had a scheduled meeting. I'd have thought that it being me of all people you could have at least put in a little effort into not being an asshole. I waited thirty minutes before FRIDAY even told me you weren't coming." She said, poking him repeatedly and very hard in the chest.
Rubbing at the spot her finger had jabbed him he frowned down at her. "Well not everything is about you, now is it?"
"No, it's just about you." She scowled up at him. The older man looked her hard in the eyes before his stern mouth broke into a wide smile and opened his arms for her.
Reluctantly grinning back at him she wrapped her arms around her godfather's shoulders in a tight hug. Pulling back but keeping her in his arms he apologizes. "I'm sorry pip, but this meeting really was important."
Scrunching her face up at his childhood nickname for her, Rory stepped back. "Don't call me that, old man." Tony's mouth opened in disbelief.
"Really, that was a low blow." The clearing of a throat behind her catches their attention reminding them that they weren't alone.
"Who's your feisty little friend, Stark?" A slightly older redhead asked, leaning back in her chair with an amused expression on her face. Wrapping his arm around her waist Tony turned Rory so that everyone could get a good look at her.
"This is Aurora Donahue, my goddaughter and our newest Avenger. Audrey, this is mostly everyone." He gestures towards Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, Clint Barton and Steve Rogers. Nodding at them all she gave the room her signature half smile that others would dare call a smirk. "I was supposed to meet her to get her up to speed and assign her to her room and what not, but this mission came up."
