I walked to the arena seeing Travis there with the horses, they were beautiful and I knew Alexis would love it, I could only imagine the look in her eyes and the way her face would light up seeing them.

"Are those all yours?" I asked John as I walked up to him where he was leaning on the fence watching.

"Are now."

"Travis put one hell of a team together for you. Goddamn." I sighed watching them.

"What is it Rip?" John asked.

"Nothing, just thinking bout how much Alexis would love this. She's been telling you to get more horses for years."

"Still hiding out."

"Yes sir, kinda pushing me away unless she wants me there. Honestly miss her bossy ass out here."

"She'll come around, just might take a while to get back to normal. She talk to you yet."

"Not about anything concerning that." John sighed shaking his head.

"Damn girl always tries to hold the weight of the world." He walked off after Jimmy. The kid was going down to Texas, the last chance he had. John had made that choice and unfortunately, that was out of my hands. I saw someone out of my eye and turned seeing Alexis and Beth. Alexis was watching the horses. As they reached me Alexis touched my back before resting against the fence next to me.

"You look like a kid in the toy store who forgot his allowance."

"Darlin, those are some of the finest horses in the world right there in front of us."

"They are pretty damn beautiful."

"That's my inheritance running around in circles." Beth said "Glad someone is enjoying it."

"Our inheritance ain't going nowhere." Alexis said watching the horses. Beth was looking at the kid and nudged Lex who turned her head.

"Carter's done for the day." Beth said. I glanced behind me at him and looked at them

"No, not even close."

"It wasn't a question." Lex said looking at me. "Beth is taking him shopping, he's done."

"Lex, Beth please do not spoil that fucking boy. He needs to learn to work right now, he doesn't need anything else."

"He doesn't have shit." Beth said.

"He has this place. And right now that's as good as it's going to get."

"Lex handle it, he's your fucktoy." Beth said walking towards the kid. I glanced at Lexi.

"Look we are gonna take him to Murdoch's, get him a pair of boots and a decent jacket."

"It's up to you, he's y'all's pet."

"What did you call him?" She asked turning towards me. I turned leaving one arm on the fence as I looked at her.

"Trust me with this boy. You treat him like a pet and that's what you're going to get a pet. And not a good one."

"Fuck you." She retorted as Beth chuckled in amusement.

"All right." I said turning back around. I heard her walk up and looked at her.

"I love you. I'll see you at the house." She said kissing me on the side of the mouth. "But fuck you."

"All right baby." I said as she walked off amusement filling me as I laughed watching her walk away.  By the time I got done working and went to the house Lexis wasn't there. I figured being gone as long as she had it might not be great so I had a cup of ice sitting on the table with a couple shots and some lime next to it. I was nursing a beer while I fixed my reins when the door opened and she slammed it shut as I watched her grab a cup. When she turned around I pointed to the table where I already had a drink ready for her. She put the glass on the counter and I fixed my chair back right as she walked up and sat down. "Is it a one-shot." I said putting the shot it her glass and lifting the other. "Or a two-shot day?" I asked with a smile.
