If he was being honest with himself, Ishimaru knew he wasn't going to be able to go to sleep the night of the attack.
That was before the power went out.

K. I. - Hey, Mondo, I was wondering if you were still awake.

M. O. - yeah, duh

M. O. - what's up bro?

K. I. - I'm embarrassed to say this, but I'm too frightened in the house alone to sleep, so I thought I'd text you. The dark is terrible.

M. O. - why not turn on the lights?

K. I. - My power is out.

M. O. - bro I live like five minutes away, want me to just come pick you up?

M. O. - we still have power, you could stay as long as you need

K. I. - No that's alright, it would be too late at night to ask you to do such favors for me. Besides, you've already done too much for me today, kiyodai!

M. O. - dude it's 9:30, i haven't even let my hair down yet

M. O. - I'll find a spare helmet and swing by, yeah?

He sighed. It almost seemed as if Owada were already on his way over by the sound of his messages. Taka could never get a read on him, no matter how hard he tried.
That bike was a death machine, and he almost considered saying no due to fear.
The shadows of his house taunted him relentlessly, though, and to be quite honest, scared him much more.
'Well if I'm not going to be able to sleep anyways....' he thought.

K. I. - If you insist, as long as you bring proper protective gear and abide by traffic laws I would accompany you.

M. O. - nice

M. O. - see u soon

"You want to bring him HERE? The Ishimaru kid?"
"Is...that okay?" Mondo asked, shuffling his feet.
Daiya stood, silent for a minute.
"Yes. BUT only because that little nark is the reason you've got fuckin almost straight D's." He grumbled, turning back around and continuing on the dishes. Mondo's bike was safely in the garage, and the leftover pizza had just been put away, allowing Daiya to continue his previous tasks.
"I'VE GOT STRAIGHT D'S?! Ya didn't tell me THAT'S why you wanted to talk bout my report card!"
"Hey, I said almost. Bad news is there's two D minuses, good news is there's also a C minus. You're not flunking."
Mondo practically jumped for joy. All of the homework he had been forced to email out all weekend (thanks to Taka) had made it in before the deadline for report cards. It wasn't much, but he felt a surge of hope at the good news.
"If him tutoring you is actually helping, s' fine by me if he's over."
"Thanks, bro."
"I get to have scary older brother rights, though...don't I?."
"Don't pull that shit, Dai. He's already gonna be freaked as fuck."
"Don't I?!" Daiya asked again, almost giddy.
"..... if he cries I'll hit you."
"Fine, fine, I'll behave. Go get yer boyfriend, dude."
"Yeah, whatever. Thanks, fuck you." Mondo said, sneering and flipping his brother off as he left for the garage.
Daiya held up a sudsy middle finger back without looking up from the dishes.
"Drive safe, bitch boy!" Mondo heard his brother cackle after him.

'It's fine, it's just a guy doing his bro a solid.... fuckin Daiya ..... He's not my boyfriend or anything, he's just ... Ishimaru. It's not like Ginny. Not even CLOSE.' Mondo thought to himself, ignoring the fluttering excitement he was feeling to go get his friend.
After a minute of digging through boxes of motorcycle parts and extra gang shit, he found a decent helmet that he thought might fit Taka's head. He took his sleeve and brushed away most of the dust and cobwebs, revealing more of the shimmery gunmetal color.
Mondo checked the inside for anything possibly gross (bugs, dirt, etc.), and wiped the inner parts of the helmet as well just for good measure. He didn't want Taka to have a freak out before they'd even started rolling.
Besides, either way they'd both have to hop back on the motorcycle to go home, so he didn't want to make Taka's first trip too traumatizing.
Mondo would actually have to go the speed limit.
But not on the way there of course. Don't be ridiculous.
