the living room had felt and looked far from empty except for the dim light showing. all was still in the night. the only thing giving life into the room was donghyuck. sitting on the love seat timid; bouncing his leg up & down as the clock kept ticking.

ticking...

and ticking...

and ticking.

ticking until donghyuck had finally had enough to when the large hand pointed at 12 and the other at 1. it had been the next day obviously but more so at one in the morning was when donghyuck would attempt to draw the line.

it's been like this constantly. mark having said he was off to work but would return way later after his hours had finished. business he told donghyuck that would supposedly last only to three days but mark not getting home till the seventh day.

they were all lies he was telling. a secret or something he was hiding or just making plans to be away from donghyuck.

donghyuck coughed. the candle in the room almost lighting out its flame but managed as donghyuck pulled a tissue from his pocket and spat out mucus. he had been sick for a while now. coughing and hacking, maybe even sneezing but he assumed he had the flu so he never had a thought for it.

he too thought his sickness was from the distinguish of his heart not receiving as much love as he had the first few years of their marriage. without mark, donghyuck felt broken. incomplete.
"where are you..." donghyuck said under his breath as the clock just kept ticking. of how he wished he could freeze time as of now.

the front door came to a soft opening. donghyuck shot his eyes up in amusement as he stood from the love seat and heard faint noises of mark's shoes slipping off. a few grunts as he set his bag down and made his way to the kitchen.
donghyuck walked there slowly, the opposite way of mark as his heart started to rapidly beat as mark took a container of some leftover meat from the fridge. rice was already prepared as he placed his bowl and gathered his arrangements before donghyuck could feel a sickening cough pleading to come out. he held his breath not wanting to scare mark but of course, germs beat him and he let out a few coughs. "donghyuck?" mark looked up from his bowl as he saw donghyuck covering his mouth for a moment before raising his hand. "mark." donghyuck had said as he gave the most awkward smile one could do. "why are you home so late?"

a question that donghyuck had always asked but mark never gave a full answer. "don't worry about it." he said while giving a small laugh and placing his food in the microwave. "mark, it's one in the morning. i should be allowed to know where you were. you have never come home this-"

"if i say don't worry about it, then don't worry about it."

a glare was struck through donghyuck. mark could always intimidate him. whether it was just through eye contact, verbally speaking, physical touch in the loving way, or the other way which no one in any circumstance should ever perceive. in fact, donghyuck had remembered the faint bruise he had on the side of his waist from mark gripping him too hard and soon pushing him across the room, landing into the nightstand. all from a dumb argument. "was it about your job? you could have at least called or texted me. i thought you might have been in danger."

"i'll never be in danger. don't worry about me. i take care of you, not the other way around." the black haired male took his food out of the microwave as he then began eating it with a fork. humming to himself. donghyuck found it odd as he was just so casual with this. donghyuck's stomach turned and twisted as he felt another rush of mucus squirm to his throat. he wasn't sure how his sickness was running and ushering this way but he managed to croak out some words. "i'll be in bed." before he sprinted off upstairs. going into their bedroom and grabbing the closest tissue box, donghyuck began hacking as if he were a cat coughing up a fur ball. donghyuck let everything out before he bawled the tissue up and then sprawled out in the floor. he hasn't known his flu would get worse as an adult; it didn't feel like how it did when he was a child.

donghyuck watched the ceiling fan spin as he felt what he thought was drool run down his chin from his coughing scene earlier. he wiped the running spit off his chin with his sleeve revealing to look at it, but his once light green stained sweater was now pierced with a dark red. his eyes gave a wide look but his facial expression looked more confused. he opened the tissue that was bawled up in his left hand, opening it and gave a gasp in horrific sight.

blood.

he was unsure of what was happening but soon he could hear mark coming up the stairs as he threw the tissue in the trash can next to their desk and quickly ran, hopping into bed and slumping under the covers. mark walked in, shirtless as he ruffled his hair. mark being undoing his belt as donghyuck knowing what was yet to come. "i'm tired." donghyuck then replied out as mark looked up to him. a smirk and slight laugh being done as donghyuck shook his head. "okay? i'm tired too."

"i don't want to do it tonight." donghyuck then replied. he always attempted to say no though it never worked but mark hadn't care. "i'm sick mark. it'll be disgusting when you kiss me. you can get sick too." donghyuck was wishing a cough would come out but of course it didn't. mark hadn't replied as he then went to the side of the bed slipping in the covers as well. donghyuck felt a cold hand on his thigh as he shivered. "do this please? for me? i'm sorry i came home to late. i've had a hard day."

"but i said i was sick. i'm drained and-"

"then you don't love me. if you can't even do this for me tonight then this proves that all our love is fake and you're just using this as an excuse for-"

"of course i love you!" donghyuck interrupted. he couldn't believe mark had that thought he may say something similar everyday. donghyuck didn't really want to do anything intimate right now but he gave in as mark held his chin with his finger and gave him those sincere eyes. "fine."

"thank you." was the last thing mark said and all donghyuck ever wanted before he shut his eyes for the night. just hoping things would go down fast and he could dream of them being together happily before he started his day tomorrow as a teacher and talk to some friends, come home, make dinner, and wait for mark to get home at a reasonable time before so.
