The warmth of the crackling fire on a semi-warm night was a nice spot for two cookies to hang around.
Purple Yam Cookie was sitting crisscrossed while warming up some jelly, that he collected from the Jelly Worms he had defeated earlier, on a stick. Milk Cookie, on the other hand, was doing the same thing but with a marshmallow, he received from some townspeople.
"Today has been a busy day, huh?" Milk said, "We hardly got any rest!"
Letting out a huff, Purple Yam glared at Milk for a brief moment before turning his attention back onto his jelly-on-a-stick. He didn't seem all that happy, like per usual, but this time Purple Yam just seemed more irritated than normal.
"More like YOU had a busy day, I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING." Purple Yam growled. He gripped the stick a bit tighter than he did before.
Milk Cookie stared at Purple Yam only to slightly look away with a frown on his face, he then rubbed the back of his head. He felt pretty sorry, Purple Yam must've been bored throughout the whole time they were at that village. It probably didn't help that Milk kept scolding Purple Yam every time the guy shouted at one of the cookies there.
"I'm sorry, Purple Yam," Milk Cookie apologized. There was a bit of silence until suddenly the knight perked up as if a lit lightbulb appeared over his head, a big smile formed on the cookie's face, going from his sad look to his usual happy one in a snap.
Purple Yam narrowed his eyes upon seeing this sudden change in emotions in his adventure buddy. "What do you have in MIND this TIME?" Yam growled. "If it's ANOTHER hug or something LIKE that, I DON'T want it."
Usually, as Purple Yam stated, Milk has been doing that lately. The cookie wasn't so sure as to why Milk has started doing that whenever Purple Yam gets angry at him for leaving him for boredom. But that didn't seem to be the case here as Milk Cookie shook his head, a slight giggle escaped from his mouth after.
"Nope! But I'll try to make it up to you, how does defeating some Cake Wolves sound? Maybe even Jelly Worms?" Milk suggested.
Those suggestions aren't bad ones, Purple Yam wouldn't mind taking out his anger on some monsters. Besides, it's not like he's beating up cookies, so Milk wouldn't mind at all. Although... Before Yam answered, he leaned back against the rolly cake wood behind him, letting out a small "tsk."
"I thought you DIDN'T like attacking unless you HAVE TO?" Purple Yam reminded, now having an eyebrow raised. Milk Cookie let out a nervous chuckle as a bit of sweat rolled down his face, repeatedly but lightly pressing his stubs for hands together.
"Well... Yeah, but this is just for you! I don't-- mind, I'll probably just spectate, anyways," Milk reassured.
Purple Yam stared at Milk still with a raised eyebrow, Yam found it a bit-- no, very odd that it's Milk suggesting such a thing, and not him, but who knows? Most likely it's the fact that the guy wants to make it up to Yam. Either way, he's going to get his anger out one way or another.
"WhatEVER, it's fine by ME." Purple Yam grinned, now having a bit of a smug look on his face. He looked up at the glistening, starry night sky, now feeling more a bit more at ease now they've planned something. "I'm GUESSING we're doing it in the morning?"
Milk Cookie nodded. "Yup! First thing in the morning, too!" The knight confirmed before leaning back on the rolly wood behind him, dragging both his mace and his shield closer to him. Even though the cookie sounded energetic, it was getting more and more noticeable that it seemed like Milk was going to pass out any second now.
Once Yam noticed his jelly was getting all melty, he pulled it away from the fire before giving it a few blows. As he was blowing on his food, he did take notice of Milk's tiredness-- and that he was burning his marshmallow.
"Milk."
No response from him, even though his eyes were still open, or well, slightly open.
"MILK."
"WHA-- HUH?!" The shouting shook Milk out of his sleep, causing the cookie to frantically look around only to lay his eyes on Purple Yam as the barbarian lightly banged the wood, that he's leaning on, with his mace.
"Your MARSHMALLOW is BURNING," Purple Yam notified as he pointed at it, taking a bite out of his jelly as he did so.
Confused, Milk Cookie looked over at his marshmallow, and well, it was pretty much jet black. He wasn't even angry or shocked, just disappointed. Milk has forgotten how quickly marshmallows cook, and welp, that was his only one.
"Oh..." Milk removed the marshmallow from the fire. "I'll get something else to eat later. I kinda just want to sleep right now," Milk said while shaking the stick, putting out the fire on the marshmallow. He put the stick aside before leaning back against the wood behind him.
"ALRIGHT, goodnight," Purple Yam said before taking a bite out of the melted jelly.
"Night," Milk said back while closing his eyes. It didn't take long for the cookie to fall asleep, once he did, occasional soft snores could be heard from him.
Purple Yam stayed awake, mainly because he was on lookout duty for the 100th time-- speaking of which, Milk hasn't done his fair share for a while now.
The cookie has been sleeping a lot lately, and honestly, Purple Yam blames it on the fact Milk has been busier than him for these past few days. Yam was a bit jealous about that, at this point it felt like he was-- there, like a shadow.
A big huff came out of Purple Yam as he slouched over to the side a bit, placing his right hand firmly on his right leg. Yam took another bite out of the melting jelly while he glared at the sleeping Milk Cookie.
He appreciates that Milk is trying to put more attention on him as of now, but all of that ignoring, negligence, and scolding still kinda stings. Hopefully, this doesn't keep up for so long that it ruins their friendship.
