Chapter 6 : Katerina

Bulgaria 1490

Katherine is delivering a baby. Her mother is helping her. (All Bulgarian will be translated!). "A little more dearest, a little more. Push....a little more. A little more. A little more. Push!" Katherine's mother said. She pushes and screams. She delivers her baby. Her mother takes it. Her father is watching. "It's a girl." Her mother said. "A girl. Please mother, let me see her." Katherine asked. Her father came storming in. "Woman, don't! What are you doing?" He asked his wife. She gives him the baby. "Let me at least hold her once...just once." Katherine pleaded. "Forget it! You have disgraced this family." Her father said with venom lacing his voice. He leaves the room holding the baby. "Father, please! No, father, no!" Katherine cried out. "No Katerina, it's better for her! It's better for her!" Her mother told her. "No mother, please..." she cried. "Let her go...let her go Katerina." Her mother said.

Present

Katherine and Daniel are still in the tomb and are sitting against a wall when they heard someone call out to them. "Katherine? Daniel?"  The voice said. They recognised it to be Elena. Daniel helped Katherine up and they walked up to the entrance of the tomb. "Hello Elena. You come to watch us wither away? Goodbye Caroline." Katherine said. Daniel was too hungry to talk. "As long as I stay on this side of the door, they can't hurt me. Please." Elena said to Caroline. She looked at Daniel and Katherine and walked away. "Stefan know your here?" Katherine asked. "I brought you some things." Elena said. "You came to bribe us?What is it that you want?" Katherine asked her. "I want you to tell me about Klaus." Elena demanded. Daniel grew surprised. "Hmm, you've been busy." Daniel said quietly. "What's wrong with you?" Elena asked him. "He's hungry and so am I but it has a bigger effect on him." Katherine said for him.

"Anyway, I also brought you this." Elena said whilst taking an old book out of a bag. "It's your family history. It says in here that the family line ended with you. Obviously that's not true." Elena said. "You think that if you brought me some family keepsake that I'd open up?" Katherine asked. "I also brought this." Elena said. She brought out a bottle of blood and immediately, Daniel sped to the entrance but was blocked by the spell. He had his vampire face showing at her. "You don't look so good. How long before your body shuts down? 10, 20 years? It must be painful to desiccate and mummify. I can't even imagine." Elena said to him with fake sympathy. Daniel sits back down next to Katherine. Elena pours the blood into two cups and pushes them through the spell. Katherine grabs them and gives one to Daniel. He drinks it and suddenly feels better. "That's better." He said sounding less in pain.

"You have the Petrova fire." Katherine said. "More blood?" Elena asked. The couple put their cups down and Elena took them back. "It's a long story, Klaus and I. It goes all the way back to England, 1492, after I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out." Katherine started while drinking more blood. Daniel did the same but only listening to the story. "Thrown out?" Elena asked. "My family, your true ancestors, they disowned me. My indiscretions were not tolerated at that time. I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame." Katherine explained. "It was kept a secret?" Elena asked. " Mhmm. My baby was given away. I was banished to England and I had to learn to adjust. So I quickly became English. It was there that I caught the eye of a nobleman named Klaus. I was taken with him at first, til I found out what he was and what he wanted from me. And then I ran like hell." Katherine said.

England 1492

Katherine is running in the woods. She falls and hides behind a tree. Elijah and his men are looking for her. "She's here. Katerina! I know you're near, I can smell your blood. It's pointless to run, Klaus will find you wherever you are." Elijah announced. Trevor arrives and indicates a false direction. "This way. There is more blood over there." He said to Elijah. They leave. Katherine gets up. She tries to leave but Trevor arrives, puts a finger on her mouth and pushes her against the tree. "Head east. I can't lead them astray anymore." Trevor said to her. "I can't run anymore." She said tired. "Never mind. There's a cottage. You'll be safe there. Go now. Go!" Trevor said to her and she ran.
