As the night dragged on, I was in the car just thinking of every possible REASONABLE explanation for why Jc would've done what he did... but nothing.

"Hey, you wanna talk about it?" Marie suddenly spoke.

"No, thanks" I replied, still looking out the window into the dark night.

"You know, we're barely 10 minutes into this drive. Might as well make the best of it" Marie smiled, looking ahead.

"That's great. Still not gonna tell you" I rolled my eyes.

"Damn it, fine." my cousin gave up and kept driving.

Was it that I was boring?

Still gives him no right.

Did I do something?

I don't recall doing anything that bad.

I wonder what he's doing right now.

Is he regretting it?...

Nah, Melissa don't be stupid he could care less.

Wow, I was so stupid. How could I believe a pretty face?

I thought that I was set.

Somehow I remembered a saying I read a while back. It went something like:
"Have a mind open to everything and attached to nothing."

What did that mean?

The heart does what it wants, feels what it wants to feel, but what about the mind? You can control your thoughts if you learn how.

I had not yet learned.

"'lissa?" I heard the voice slowly catch me out of my net of thoughts. I had now noticed that Marie had pulled over to the side.

"Seriously, what is going on?" Marie asked.

"Nothing."

"Ok, you can't say 'nothing' with puffy and watery eyes and be into deep thought. This isn't like you, so what is it? What's going on?" Marie asked.

"I don't want to talk about it" I looked down at my feet that were barely visible in the dark.

"You're either gonna talk about this now or later, so I suggest to just rip it off like a bandaid." Marie explained.

I sighed, knowing she wasn't gonna give this up.

"Jc- he- he-" my voice kept cracking and I couldn't help but let tears roll down my face.

"Oh honey, he didn't" she shook her head in disbelief, as she took off her seatbelt and hugged me. I nodded and hugged back. I cried into her shoulder as she rubbed my back. "Oh sweetie, it's ok. It'll get better. Breakups are hard, everyone goes through them. He doesn't deserve your tears, don't reward him with that."

I sniffed as I murmured "Thanks."

"No problem, now why don't we just go get some ice cream?" she smiled.

"It's like midnight?" I lightly laughed.

"Yeah, so? Never too late for ice cream." she scoffed.

"That's very true" I giggled.

"Alright, well the nearest ice cream place is" she paused as she checked on her GPS "...15 minutes from here."

"Yay, can't wait" I cheered sarcastically.

"It'll make you feel better, I promise" she rubbed my knee and then shifted her hand to her seatbelt, buckled it and then drove off. About 5 minutes after taking off, Marie attempted to make conversation. Hint word: attempted. "So, you wanna give me some highlights?"

"No" I bluntly replied.

"How about what you're planning to do once we get back?" Marie smiled, still looking up ahead.

"Nothing." I said once again.

"Wow, you are such a ray of sunshine!" she cheered sarcastically.

"Thanks, I try to be the best I can" I replied back with a fake 'excited' voice.

"You disgust me" Marie scoffed playfully.

"Yeah, apparently I disgust Jc too" I rolled my eyes.

"I know the pain is fresh..." she paused "get it? 'Cause like paint, fresh paint..." she examined my face and realized I was not amused, so continued "anyways... don't think about it. The more you think, the more you feel for it."

"Ok" was all I could say at this point. After about 10 minutes we arrived at a frozen yogurt place that for some strange reason was open at this time. We walked in and got each of our frozen yogurts and as we were about to leave Jc was there.

I tried walking faster, hoping I'd get through the door without him noticing. "Melissa?" I heard a faint whisper.

"Marie, walk faster" I hurried.

"Melissa, is that you?! Kian, get the car." Jc ordered, as I pushed Marie and started running to the car.

Marie started the engine and we sped off without letting the car warm up.

"You ok?" she asked.

"Just drive" I said in a low voice.

I noticed there was a car who was getting closer and closer quite swiftly. I looked at the passenger seat and saw Jc sitting there, yelling something I couldn't really hear. Before I knew it Jc was sitting on the window with a bullhorn in his hand while talking into it.

"Melissa, I know you're in that car. Please stop." he asked.

"Drive faster." I stated, as Marie increased the speed by a little bit, but just enough to get away.

"Melissa! Please! I'm begging you" I heard the voice practically yelling into the bullhorn. I looked back, as I saw Jc start to cry a little I looked at him, with tears in my eyes, but just a single blink and he was off the window... out the car.

Once Kian noticed, he attempted to stop the car, but the car screeched then flipped onto the side of the road.

"Marie, stop" and then, Marie slowly stopped and then reversed near where everything happened. I called the hospital and the ambulance arrived in about 15 minutes.

"Alright, they're in the ambulances. Their can go one in each ambulance" the kind nurse informed.

"I'll go with Jc" I said, as Marie showed me a surprised face expression, but went into Kian's ambulance without asking a single question.

I sat in the waiting room... it seemed to be forever... I remember it passed like about an hour and then a bunch of doctors ran into a room with a loud beeping sound.

I followed behind, just enough so they wouldn't notice me... I wanted to see what the commotion about and then I noticed it was Jc's room and I began to panic.

"1...2...3... clear!" the doctor repeated shocking him with his electricity thing about 5 times. Until, it was certain the beeping sound wasn't gonna change.

They turned off the machines and then I heard the doctor say "Time of death: 12:34 AM" and suddenly my whole world tore apart...
