Drowning

(Hey guys, author speaking, sorry this chapter took so long to write, I was taking a mental health break. Anyways, enjoy!)

We left Aunt Mito's house at dawn, about four o'clock in the morning. I was exhausted, in fact, I fell asleep mid conversation with Mito, and accidentally rested my head on Gon's shoulder whilst snoring.

But after our final farewells and cat cuddles, we raced back to the castle.

"I never anticipated going back this late, guess I got carried away," Gon said through shallow breaths, running through the empty market street or Yorknew.

It's alright, all we have to do is make it inside of the castle without realizing we were gone," I panted, I wasn't used to running or exercising, so lack of stamina was definitely catching up to me. Gon was stronger and had more agility, making the run to the palace a bit easier for him.

Before long, the palace was in sight in all of its glory.

"We're gonna make it, don't worry! I'm certain," Gon quickened his pace, speeding ahead of me, running to the rushing moat along the castle.

I fell behind, I couldn't run as fast and was out of breath.

"Wait for- (gasp)- me god (gasp) dammit," I wheezed.

"Theres no time! We gotta hurry come on were almost there!"

What I forgot to mention earlier in the story, which might be of some importance now, would be the fact that there is a small bump in the ground that leads straight into the moat around the castle. Unfortuatly, Gon nor Killua were aware of this fact.

"WE DID I-" Gon tripped, and before he could stop what was happening, his dumbass fell into the icy water.

I wasn't sure what happened at first, until I realized that my companion was in fact no longer in front of me.

So I stopped dead in my tracks.

"...Gon?" I looked over into the water, it was still too dark to see where he was.

Dammit, his body was probably in shock from the sudden tempeture change around him so he was probably still under water. I inched closer, careful not to fall in myself.

"GON!" I shouted "CAN YOU HEAR ME? GON?"

oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no, think think think what do I do? I can't ask for help, oooooooh we are so going to get caught and then Gon will probably be arrested and taken away from me and I'll be put in self isolation and Alluka would have no one and-

A tiny ripple. And then a big splash.

A frantic arm reached out, Gons arm! Next, his head came up pushing through to the surface, gasping for air, it was almost funny seeing his hair down and wet instead of its usual untidy style.

"Gon! Are you okay? What do you want me to do? here, try and grab my arm!"

But, instead of reaching out for me, Gon just scowled.

"You didn't tell me there was a current."

Oh no.

A half second later, Gon was swept away with the rushing water that had looked so still before hand.

"GON WAIT!"

But unfortunatly, Gon couldn't respond through all the cold water filling up his nose and mouth, and constantly pushing him under.

I ran as fast as I could, trying to follow Gon until I could reach him, until he could grab onto something and stay still.

There was only one thing I could do...
