He could hear footsteps. Footsteps could mean good news, bad news, or even nothing at all. He looked up to see his friend just before his door. The man handed him a newspaper, smiled, and walked away. How pathetically kind the man was, he thought. On the front page of the newspaper was a big picture. A picture of a boy in his early teenage years. The boy is widely smiling. His blond hair combed to one side. His eyes were perfect ovals, and even that smile could not decrease their size. They were the color of saturated pure blue. He remembered how the boy walked with his head held up high as if he owned the earth under his feet. He began remembering other things about him. How he used to laugh like he was just informed that he was elected school president. (Or even president for the country). How he walked the school hallway with a bunch of girls following him. How everybody would kill just to be his friend.

Under the photo, few lines written with bold words demanded to be read: "After long lasting search for Landmay's missing boy, the police found Brian Conolley's body in THE LAKE OF LANDMAY. Severe trauma on the body can indicate the victim was murdered before he was drowned. Suspects (and witnesses if possible) will be questioned. More information will be revealed as the public will be kept posted."

Now that was excellent news, he thought as he couldn't help chuckling out loud.

The plan was working just fine for him.

"I'm still here, and I will not lose." That was the only sentence his tongue continued to repeat until it was time the day had to end.

He was Alex.
