Our frantic footsteps rang throughout the school corridors as we half ran-half walked to our class. We were already about ten minutes late and unfortunately, our first class itself is taught by Hitler, which is the nickname we call our history teacher due to his personality towards us students. And coincidentally, he teaches us history too.
After we left the twins' house, we had come to school with Jasper driving us since the three of them agreed to go via our car instead of walking by themselves. Inside the car, Klaus wasted his time teasing and arguing with Karly while Dorian and I utilized this time to have our part of the cupcakes and share some with Jasper too, who looked very amused and interested in the twins' bickering. Sometimes, when one of them used curse words, he gave me a sideways look that very obviously said 'That is quite interesting' and I could only grin awkwardly in return - but besides that, he was pretty silent for most of the drive, since he probably didn't want to pick on me in front of my friends and he wasn't much close to them either. Upon reaching our destination, we suddenly realized we were really late all thanks to Klaus taking time to eat his two cupcakes while Karly kept persuading him to have it later. So, without a second thought, we ran out of the car after I waved a little bye to Jasper and was right nearby our class in about two or three minutes.
"Fuck, we told you to eat those cupcakes at school, you idiot!" Karly shoved Klaus while walking hurriedly. He shrugged, "I didn't know we would be this late."
"You've a big mouth but can't eat a small cupcake fast, dumbass!" Karly scowled. I nudged her, gesturing her to keep quiet and quit cursing her poor brother all the time. Just as we were in front of our class, gasping and tired with red, sweaty faces, our teacher narrowed his eyes at us, "Oh, here you are, I had marked absent for each of you. Where were you till now?"
"Probably tried to bunk classes," Ava announced to the whole class. Yep, announced.
"No, we weren't," I protested, "We had a traffic block while driving. We're sorry for being late, Mr.John."
"Fine. Since today's the last day before holidays start, I'm leaving you free of detention," Mr.John said, much to our disbelief, "But don't you dare repeat it, got me?"
After we nodded quickly, he turned to Dorian and shook his head pathetically, "I thought you excelled in studies, young man. Why would you be with students like them and come late to classes?"
I heard a set of giggles from the middle bench - which consisted of Ava, her cousin Trent's friend Brian, and Sally. Obviously.
Dorian bent his head sheepishly, his toes rubbing the floor as he slowly shrugged. He seemed worried. Immediately, Karly defended him, "I'm sorry, Mr.John, but I'm sure that being punctual has nothing to do with studies or friends. We told you our reason and that's the truth."
Mr.John narrowed his already-beady eyes at Karly, but decided to leave it and let us in, fortunately. Right as we sat on our respective seats, Klaus turned to Karly with an intense death glare. "Why'd you have to say that? You could've landed us all in trouble! Why do you always need to open your big mouth?" Klaus whisper-yelled to his sister. She shrugged, her face showing not a single sign of worry, "Because I'm a student and I've all rights to correct a teacher when he speaks nonsense. Just because you excel in studies doesn't mean you can always be punctual, and neither are punctual people always great at studies. If I get punished just for correcting someone, then I'd sue them, whoever it is. Also, mistakes happen, why should he ask Dorian why he's accompanying 'people like us' as if we're some losers?"
"I agree," I nodded, though it's a truth that a very strict teacher like Mr.John could've easily put us all in detention just because one of us spoke back to him. Besides, it's for Dorian that Karly spoke back - that could spark rumors among our classmates and land Dorian in more trouble among both our fellow classmates as well as teachers too. I mean, Karly rarely ever stands up for anyone else except me and her brother, but her speaking up for another guy besides her brother can definitely be doubtful, especially for gossip-girls like Ava and Sally who thinks that girls and guys can never be 'just friends'. Sure, Dorian and Karly really did have something else between them most of the time, but unlike our secret shipping, Ava and Sally spread it around the whole school and talk about it like it's some bad thing since Dorian is an uncool nerd according to them and any girl who likes him must be a nerd too.
