Gifted

Chapter 1

     The man turned out to be Professor Daniels. He is the head of the Brac School of the Gifted. For five years I was stuck in a holding pin where scientists would evaluated my "gift." I hate my powers. THey took me away  from my old life and I ended up burning my "mom's" house. It turns out she was a friend of the Professor's, who brought mr in when my father left me. Speaking about my dad, he left me to go fight in a major battle with the underworld called Dromin.

     Today is my first day at Brac. Great. I know nobody and my roommate is annoying. She was always tring to get me to go out and meet new people but I would always say no or I'm busy or some other lousy excuse. How would you act if you got torn away from everything that you grew up on and with. Anyways she would just turn around and leave. Poor Shay, she is just mad that I refuse to be one of her play toys.

      I woke up this morning and got ready. "Tara, are you ready yet. Professor wants me to show you to the auditorium." Said shay. "I'm done. Now let's hurry." She looked at me like I was an alien or something. What's wrong with what I look like.? My curly blonde and red hair has been tamed to the best of my ability. My face has nothing on it. Wait I know why she looked at me like that. She must have figured out it was me who set off the fireworks last night. I know your probably thinking what the heck, but I have been doing everything I could to get out of this...this... PRISON! "Earth to Tara.... Fine just stand there for all I care." Shay said. She then turned and left me. I walked out of the girl's dorm grumbling about my stupid roommate when I ran into someone. "Hey there lovely. What's your name?" said a really cute guy with light brown hair and amber eyes that reminded me of honey. I love honey especially with some warm cinnamon milk. "Hello, earth to the pretty lady in front of me." He said as he waved his hand in front of my face. "Huh? Oh my name is Tara. What's your's?"   "Oh little ole me. My name is Xander." He said faking a southern accent. "What year are you?" I asked. " I'm a second year." He studied me closely. "I've never seen you here before. Are you new here?"  "Ya it's my first year here." As I said that the intercom screeched. "May all the students of Brac school of the Gifted join me for a meeting in the auditorium." The voice said. I looked to Xander. "Want to show me the way to the auditorium?"  "Ya sure. Let me go get my sister first." He then ran towards a very pretty girl with black hair and chocolate brown eyes. " You guys are siblings. You look nothing alike." I exclaimed. The girl shot me a look. " Have you ever heard of half siblings? We share the same dad. Our moms' are different." she then explained. "Ohhhhh I'm sorry. What's your name?" I asked. " I'm Riley. I take it you are a first year." she said. "How does everybody know that?!" She laughed. "Your talis is what gives you away." I looked at her funny. "What's a talis?" I asked. She sighed. " Your talis is what shows that you are gifted. The swirls will expand and deepen in color when you move up to your next year. See" She stuck out her wrist. I noticed that her swirls were thicker and her colors were more vibrant. The yellow stuck out the most. There also was a faint silver lining on the the bottom of the mark. "What do the colors mean?'' I asked. Xander answered this one. " Red is for fire. Blue is for water and ice. Yellow is for air, wind, speed. Green is for Earth and plants. Purple is for any type of magic and silver is for  seers and night creatures."  "HELLO. We have a meeting to go to." Riley said. They lead me to a huge Victorian style building with ornate windows.The windows were the colors that Xander mentioned. There was a flag that was solid black. It had a crest on it. The crest was split into 5 parts with a silver lion in the middle of it. Below the crest ran a banner that said ''United we rise and Together we fall." We got into the doors and sat down. "What do you guys do?"  I asked. Riley got up and disappeared. She then returned with a flower from the bushes beside the girls dorm. " I am speed and air." I then turned to Xander. "What about you?" He got up and turned a falling leaf into a pretty purple butterfly. "Let me guess. Magic?" He nodded yes. "Now you." Said Riley. I snapped my fingers and made a small flme appear on my finger tips. I then blew it and it sparked. "Wow." said Xander. The meeting began shortly after I put out the flame. "Testing...Hello...Oh good it works. Welcome students. I am Professor Daniels and today is the day before you start class. I am going to deliever your schedules. I am going to start from first formers to fourth formers. Once you get your schedule  you may stay or leave." He droned on and on until he reached my name, Tara Nolin. I walked up to the stage and noticed something, or well someone. He was gorgeous. He had dark brown hair that was long enough to fall into his face. His eyes were a blue-green. They reminded me of the sea. He held himself tall and proud and emitted a confident aura. Snap out of it Tara it's just a guy. I walked back towards Xander and Riley and noticied them talking to a girl. She seemed...strange. Her base hair was black and had all sorts of crazy colored straks in it. She was wearing a pair of red skinny jeans and some sort of band shirt. "Ohhh my Gawd. Tara is that you. Dang girl, you have grown up. Wait you don't recognize me do you. I'm Evangeline. Most people call me ever now though." My eyes widened in shock. My best friend from when I was little is standing right in front of me. Once I got my senses back I tackled her into a giant bear hug. "Evange... I mean Ever you're here. I never thought I would see you again. How? I mean I never thought you were gifted. Ohh my Gawd." I squealed. "Tara get off of me like now you are squishing the daylights out of me.What are you in here for?" she asked. "Me. I'm a fire. What about you miss thang."   "I'm a seer. You know visions and stuff. "  "How do you know if you are a seer or not?" asked Riley. "The person's talis is more silver than normal. They also have some form of this personal talis." Ever moved her hair and showed us the mark behind her ear. It was silver triangles forming a bigger triangle with a eye in the middle. The eye looked normal but the pupil was silver and the color around it was specked with all the elemental and magical colors. "That is so pretty. Mine is a diamond made of red stars how stupid."  I said. "It's not stupid. You are with the fire. One of the most important elements. Without fire there was no creation of humanity or civilization. You should feel honored to personify fire." Xander lectured. I ignored him and it seems that the others did too. " So Tara who were you looking at when you went to get your schedule? Someone spark an interest?"  asked Riley. "Ummm not really. I saw him out of the corner of my eye. He was just so handsome it startled me a little bit."  "What did he look like!?" Riley squealed. I sighed "He was tall, built well sorta. You could tell he hit the gym a few times. Dark brown hair and blue-green eyes. Like a sea from the Caribbean. He's over there in the leather jacket." I pointed in the direction he was in. "Hmmm that's Jace Carrey a 3rd year. He's the Professor's gopher. So cute though. We so need to change you up a bit. then you can go after him." My eyes widened. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN A LITTLE CHANGE!?" I practically yelled. "Breath Tara. Just a little snip here, layers there, bangs shorter. Darkening of your hair so the red stands out more and a definite change in your wardrobe." She said. Ever nodded her head in agreement. Great I think they have both lost their marbles. The professor stepped up to the microphone. "Students you may head to the dining hall the festives are about to begin."  "What does he mean festives?" Ever and I asked. "Just a back to school party. There's food, music, socializing, dancing, and not much else." Xander said. " Not much else? It;'s the only time we get to socialize with the others without staying out really late." said Riley. "Others?" Ever asked. "As in night creatures. You know vampires and werewolves." Xander said.  "You mean I go all furry around the full moon werewolves?" I asked. "And the whole I suck your blood thing." Ever said in a very bad Dracula impression. "Exactly. What do you guys want to do first? Eat or Socialize?" Riley asked. Xander, Ever and I all chorused Food Food Food.

     We neared the door and the smell of the food sent my senses into overdrive. We opened the doors and the sight was amazing. The place was decorated in the many colors representing the powers. There were about 20 or so tables set up in a U shape.  A very long table was set up at the top of the U. There were about 7 tables set up with all sorts of food. We walked to a pretty empty table and sat our stuff down. I was to save the tables so I had to wait for food. When the rest of the gang walked back to the table I nearly ran to get food.  I was half way through going around when someone bumped into me almost spilling my plate. "Hey watch it." I turned to see who it was. I didn't recognize the person at all. He in a red shirt and black pants. He had black hair that covered his eyes and snake bites. He held out a hand. "Why hello. My name is Griffin. What's yours?"  "I'm Tara. What do you do?" He laughed. "Well I'm not a stupid element representative." He laughed again then smiled. I gasped. "I take it you are a vampire then." He retracted his fangs. "Yep." he said popping the p. "Well I have got to go. Bye" I quickly walked to my table. I noticed that there were 2 people I have never seen beofre sitting with our gang. "Who are they?" I asked. "They are Cindy." Riley pointed at a pretty blonde with green eyes. "And Jay." Jay was a sight. He had reddish-brown hair and deep blue eyes. "Hey. I'm Tara. What can you guys do?" I asked. Cindy placed her hand over a empty glass and it filled with water. Jay put his hand about 6 inchs above the ground and a flower slowly sprouted. "A white rose for the pretty lady." He said. I took the bloom and smiled like a goof. "So who were you talking to when you were getting food?" Ever asked. "Here he comes now accually." I said. Griffin took a seat beside me. "Care to dance?" I nodded my head and he brought me to the dance floor. Xander soon swept me away. "I don't like him. He gives me a bad feeling." Xander was talking about Grffin. "He is not that bad. Except the whole I'm bad vibe he gives off." Xander then gave me a funny look. We soon left the dance floor. Shay then walked up to me. "I want you to stay the hell away from my Xander you. You got it?" I nodded and walked back to the table confused as hell. Jace saw the whole incident and walked up to me. "You want to go somewhere?" I just shrugged and he dragged me outside. "You want to explain what happened back there?" I shook my head no.  He didn't ask anymore questions. "Stop walking." He quickly said. I stopped. "Dang it. I didn't know we were being followed. Get down." I ducked and saw what he was talking about. There was another Gifted walking behind us. She had ice blue eyes and purple and black hair. Her skin was as white as snow. I heard a laugh. "Why are you two out here. I thought you would be celebrating with the others." she said. "Why are you out here?" Jace sneered. "I'm waiting for a...friend." She looked to me. "What's your name?"  "I'm Tara. What's your name?" The girl laughed again. "I'm Zara. Now I shall be going." She left us. Jace and I walked a litte bit longer. "Are you cold?" He asked. I then realized that I was shivering. "Come on lets get to the dorms." He lead me to the dorm and up to my room. "Goodnight Tara."  "Night Night Jace." I was shivering so hard and it was hard to put the key in the door. "Here let me." Jace then took the key out of my hand and opened the door with ease. "Lets get you to warm up a bit then I can leave. When I warmed up a bit he then walked to my door. "You didn't have to take care of me. You know I'm a big girl."  He laughed and walked out the door. This place might not be as bad as I think it is. That was the last thing that ran through my mind before sleep took over.
