The warm Arizona sun rest itself on my face. Making chills run through my body making it shudder from the warmth. I look around the dry, cactus growing horizon, and realized how much i'm actually going to miss this place. My mom, even Phil. But I don't want to hold her back, I also don't want to hold Phil back from chasing his dreams. I kept telling myself I needed to visit Charlie, it's also been to long since I visited him. He keeps on telling me about how much he has missed me. But how can I not feel sad leaving everything behind? Thoughts roamed through my mind simultaneously. "Bella, honey, come on. We need to leave to catch your flight." my mothers soothing voice said behind me. I nodded and hopped into the car.
The plane ride seemed to drag on forever. I had nothing to do, but pull out a book and read. I have read this book so many times but it was the only one in my reach. It was basically craved into my mind, I didn't even need to read the words. I just scanned through the pages and made sure once in a while I wasn't confusing parts. After a while my consciousness finally slipped away into sleep. The next thing I know, the plane was already landed. I grabbed my bag from the head compartment and leaped off the plan, glad to finally smell the fresh air. I knew that the car ride with Charlie was going to be long because the closets airport, which I happen to be at, is two hours away from Forks.
I grabbed my luggage and headed toward the airport restaurants which Charlie told me to meet him before I left home. As soon as he spotted me his eyes light up in joy. He walked toward me and embraced me in his arms. "Hey Bells, I missed you kid'o." he said with a grin. I pat his back and replied "I missed you to." The ride to his house was awkward, and it didn't help when I had to ride in a police car. We both didn't really know what to say so I was mostly starring out the window watching the blue sky and green trees fade away. "Do you like music?" he asked trying to break the ice while moving his hand towards the radio. "No, not really" I replied honestly. He moved his hand away and resumed watching the road.
Slowly I watched the sky turn gray and trees turn sickly green. Then I noticed the sign that said "Welcome to Forks." "Oh ya" I mumbled. I forgot that Forks was known to be the most rainiest places in the United States. Great I thought. Slick side-walks for the uncoordinated. I watched as the small town faded away and as we entered a small neighborhood. Charlie parked the cruiser in front of a simple two story house which was painted white but slowly chipping away. "Welcome home Bella." Charlie said with a tight throat. I smiled a thank you and got out of the car.
I was unloading the cruiser when I heard- "Bella" I young yet husky voice said in front of me. I looked up to see a 5'10 boy with long black hair pulled back, and cooper skin smiling at me. His face seemed very familiar. "Bella, you remember Jacob Black don't you?" Charlie asked quizzical. That's when my memory of him sparked up. "Ya, I remember the boy who tried to make me eat dirt when we were 5." I said with a sarcastic smile. "Oh... you remember that huh? Well, I promise I won't do that again" he said with a wink. "You also remember Billy?" Charlie said with the same tone. I guessed I didn't notice Jacob's hands around the wheel chair handles. I looked down and smiled. "Yes. I hope you knocked some sense into that boy since i've been gone" I said friendly. He smiled and said "I hope I have, and it's nice to see you again."
He nodded his head toward the side and quickly Jacob responded. "Hey, I got to go do something real quick, I will be right back." He tried making his face serious but I could tell his was fighting back a smile. My eyes narrowed on him as he walked away. "Here bells" Charlie said while lifting my luggage from my hands and walking inside. "Thanks" I said loud enough so he could hear me. I suddenly jumped back to the roar of a loud engine. I could see Billy chuckling and I took offence. My heart finally stopped thudding from my reaction to the noise when I saw a big red, fairly old, truck pull into the drive-way. Charlie came out of the house and leaned against the outside wall and crossed his arms and smiled. Jacob hopped out of the drivers seat and asked "do you like it?" My eyes lit up in shock. "Are you serious?" I said, automatically making my way towards the truck. "Yup, it's all yours" Jacob said with a beaming smile.
"Oh my god! I... love it!" I was having trouble speaking because excitement was taking over my body. I popped the drivers door opened and settled myself in its seat. I put my hands on the wheel and looked around still in shock. Jacob jumped into the passenger seat and told me about the controls. "This is how you put on the blinker" he said in a voice that said he was happy that I was happy. I nodded and said "it's amazing how much you know about this car." "Well, I was the one who fixed it up for you" he said proudly. "Are you serious? Jake you did an amazing job!" I said squealing. His cheeks got a tint of red in them. "Well, we better get going. We have dinner on the stove" Billy said heading towards their car. Jacob let out an unhappy moan and got out of my car and went to his. "C'ya soon Jake! You too Billy. Thanks again!" I said stepping out of the car. "Bye Bella" they both said in a chorus.
"Come on Bells, lets get inside" Charlie said putting his hand on my back, guiding my inside. I was surprised on how everything was pretty much exactly the same the last time I seen it. The only thing I really noticed that was different is that he had some school pictures from previous school years hanged on the walls. I walked up the stairs and down the hall to the room I remember that was mine. Still, nothing has changed. It was the same light blue walls with yellow curtains hanging from the only window. But there was a bigger bed and desk, i'm assuming, for homework. Homework! Ugh, I forgot my first day of school is tomorrow. I heard there was only a couple hundred students there. I was not looking forward to it at all. I saw that Charlie has already put my bags in my room. I walked in and started unpacking. After I was done I walked downstairs to see what I should make for dinner. Charlie isn't the best cook, so mom usually did all of the cooking. I opened the fridge to see nothing but a couple of beers, left over pizza, and a couple of snacks. I closed it in shock.
"Hey dad, do you mind if I go shopping tomorrow?" I tried to say casually but I can tell that my voice had a hint of disbelief in it. "Sure, sorry for the lack of food. I'm not use to having a company of 2. I'm going to order pizza for dinner tonight, is that alright?" He asked, sounded generously sorry but not surprised at my reaction. "Ya it's fine, just don't add pineapple on one half. I'm not weird like you" I said teasing. "Fine" he mumbled. Knowing this conversation won't go any farther I headed up to my room. I decided to email my mom to tell her I made it back safe. I pulled out my laptop and started typing-
"Dear mom,
I'm in Forks now, the plane landed safely and i'm back at Charlie's, I mean dad's, house. Nothing here has really changed so it was more comfortable. Remember the Black's? Well I met them again today and I got a new truck! Charlie bought it for me as a "Welcome home" present. Isn't that nice? Anyways, I should see what I should start reading for English. I will Email you soon., I love you.
~Love Bella."
I decided that was enough to say because I did really need to see what books I was going to read. I picked up the reading list the school sent Charlie and started reading through it, making a check list in my head. Read, read, read, I kept thinking. I finished my list and realized that I have read everyone of them. Well, at least I will can Ace the tests with no problem. "Pizza!" Charlie yelled so I could hear. I rushed downstairs ravenous, I hadn't eaten anything all day. I took two slices, which was usual for me, and plopped down on the couch next to Charlie's chair. He was watching baseball which I found boring so I finished my pizza and went to my room. I wanted to get some sleep so I didn't look like a complete wreck when I went to school tomorrow. So I grabbed my pajamas and hopped in the shower. The warm water let my relax a little bit. After I slipped on my pajamas, brushed my teeth, and tucked myself into bed.
So many thoughts roamed my mind keeping me up. I tossed and turned for what seemed like hours. I was hoping the time would magically stop so I wouldn't have to face going to school tomorrow. But of course, this was the real world, and the time kept ticking away. Finally I just gave up and lay still in bed until I finally fell asleep.
