Hello! This does have age regressing (Chip) and Gil coming in as a non-official caregiver? (I don't know what to call it besides non-official caregiver). This also includes mentions of chip's past trauma.
CW/TW: Panic attack, negative/ involuntary Age regressing, very minor self deprecation from gillion, hints at sinking ship/sea monsters?. Tell me if I missed any!

The wind hallowed outside as hostile waves thrown themselves against the ship. Objects on the deck could be heard thrashing around as thunder roared angerly with no mercy. Jay quietly snored on her hammock, her chest rising and falling in a rhythmic ease, giving no means to the vicious weather. Same could be assumed for Gillion Tidestrider but Chip? No Chip couldn't be worse, the usually sly and confident man huddled in the corner of his crew sleeping area, His eyes shut tight, His face in a screwed position as he winced to every agonizing roar of thunder, wishing to be anywhere but here. Oh and of course with that fuzzy feeling in his mind, just wishing to be let in to surround him, to let him let his emotions out with no fear but of course, no real good captain would do that.
A particular loud bang from upstairs startled the man as he flinched, accidently tipping over a empty barrel, only making the brunettes more frightened. Vicious thoughts swarmed Chip's head almost as aggressive as the storm outside as Chip down spiraled into a panic attack. He quickly put his hands over his ears as he began to slightly whimper, slowly becoming more and more childish.
Gillion slowly opened his eyes to stare into the wood of his barrel, waking up to a loud bang and soft.. whimpering? he quickly grabbed pretzel and placed her inside her glass container before lifting his head carefully above the water, cautious to any intruders that may be aboard their vassal. No immediate danger seemed apparent at first until he noticed his captain, friend, in the corner the most petrified Gill has ever witnessed. Gillion slowly stood up and pulled himself out of the comfort of his sea salt water. The concerned Triton quickly paced over to his friend, no real plan in mind besides helping his friend. Upon first glance there was no physical wounds, only the quick and staggering of chips chest and his ears covered by his hands.
"Chip are you okay? It is the middle of the night... Is there a intruder?!" He spoke softly and carefully, as If you would to a scared animal. The blue eyed humanoid fish reached for his sword only to hear a loud thunder rumble through the ship, Chip quickly flinching away from where he could here the muffled voice, his eyes still concealed. Gil was oblivious when it came to emotions but even him could put together the pieces. Gil sat on the ground in front of the boy before whispering with his normal brave voice "Come here, Chip. I promise no sea monsters will go anywhere near you!"
Chip slowly opened his eyes to see his friend sat on the ground in front him, arms open wide, a sense of comfort and sincerity around him. A soft smile rested on his face, no urgency or blood or alarming wounds littered on his body. He wasn't in the water.
He was alive.
He let the cozy feeling take over him, too tired to try to resist it anymore. He slowly crawled into his friends lap and tucked his face into his chest, His tear stained cheeks more evident. He could hear the steady heartbeat of his fish friend, a melody that Chip sore could heal the world if loud enough. Chip slowly moved his head to look around a little, as if he was a toddler looking around in a new environment, Eyes suddenly bright with pure curiosity and naïve. Chip technically was a toddler in his mind.
Age regressing was something completely normal in the undersea. In fact Gillion could distinctly remember seeing littles and caregivers walking around as if it was everyday activities. There was specific buildings made for littles, sorta like daycares. Gillion was never allowed to such luxury because he was the chosen one, "no such hero should act like a baby" was always there saying. He always liked to babysit littles and kids in his free time even if it was against the "rules". They are kids.
"How old are you little one?" Gillion asked soothingly, The storm outside seeming to dye down a bit. Gillion watched with his full attention as Chip slowly grabbed Gillions hand and curled two of his finger down; leaving three of them up. Chip turned his head back towards Gillion with a proud smile on his face, the panic completely gone from his face. Gillion let a small smile rest on his lips as he cooed the younger minded boy.
"Wow your 3! Look how big you are!" gillion spoke with his normal courageous voice. Chip laughed quietly at his friend, not a care in the world. The brown haired boy continued to play with the blue skinned hands, softer than anything he's ever touched but tough enough to hurt anyone that dares to touch his friends.
"Do you think Chip should go to bed?" The Triton spoked after a few minutes of silence. The brunet shook his head roughly, almost falling off his friends lap in the process. Gillion only chuckled in response, already knowing his stubborn captains response. He then began to turn himself around and scooch back so his back was leaning against the wall. With his comfier position he looked back at human friend one again.
"How about this... We don't need to go to bed right now but I would love to tell about the undersea! You have never been there, right? I'm sure you would love to hear of all the pretty fishies and coral! Or the great sea monsters I have fought and won!"
Chip seemed to sit and think for a few moments before quickly nodding his head, completely forgetting about the storm that has passed. Gillion then began to smile wide as he told his great tales, from what the undersea looks like to what him and his sister would find while on one of their scavenger hunts all the way to the great sharks and sea creatures he fought. By the end of his Storytime he was shedding a few tears, something a hero of the sea doesn't do.
Right now he wasn't the hero of the deep. He was not the prophecy. He was not the chosen one. He was not some great protagonist that was going to "save" the story. He was a man with his friend on his lap, Sleeping soothingly with no care in the world. He was a triton that stayed up the full night to make sure his friend would sleep well. He was the man that sofltly combed through his captains hair, wondering how the hell he was gonna talk to the stubborn human tomorrow. Most importantly he was the fish-human that missed Jay small smile as she reclosed her eyes, knowing full dam well that tomorrow they were gonna have to have a talk.
But that is tomorrow.
