"Mateo! Break over, kid!" Steve, Mateos boss, yells over the bustle of the bar.
'It's only been 10 minutes, damn it Steve.' Mateo curses.
"I'm coming, Steve!" He yells back equally as loud.
Mateo walks through the narrow break room and makes his way behind the bar where Steve seemingly has his hands full. With 3 men at the bar. Mateo rolls his eyes.
"Mateo, take over please."
"Alright," Mateo gets the men their drinks and as Steve saunters to a table full of women says "do I get the tips from my break too? Ya know, since you cut me short?"
Steve just gives him a shallow nod and continues.
'Nice, that's definitely a yes.' he celebrates
His celebrations however are cut short by the sudden slam of the front door and the sudden whispers taking place of the previous ruckus. Mateo sets his eyes on the man who entered, scanning for Steve as well just in case but he's nowhere to be seen. The mystery man limps over to the bar and not-so-graciously sits in a stool.
"Can I get a whiskey? Neat." The man's voice is almost like a smooth caramel to Matoes ears, he doesn't sound pained at all even though he tracked blood all the way through the bar.
"Sure, c-coming right up." Mateo chokes out.
The man nods at this and turns away. Mateo however is curious, for obvious reasons and decides to speak with this mystery man.
"So, where ya hurt?" He asks
"Not my blood" The man reply's gruffly
"O-oh, okay well uhm," he coughs "you got a name?"
"My friends call me Paddy." His replies are short and direct.
"Are you Irish?"
"Yep"
His replies seem to be short just so Mateo will stop talking, but he asks
"Do you have a name?" He turns toward Mateo and takes the whiskey
"Mateo, if I had friends I don't imagine they would call me anything nice either."
"Why's that? Because you're dark?"
"Mexican. But yeah."
"I had a friend in high school who was Mexican, everyone called her Beaner."
"That's about right," Mateo laughs and gets a smirk from Paddy "You doing anything for the weekend? It is Christmas after all."
After Paddy finishes his drink he says "nope, but I could be doing you?"
Mateo feels his face heat and he can't think of a reply fast enough "I- uhm," he clears his throat "I'm free, I'll give you my number."
He shakily writes his number on a napkin and slides it to the redhead.
"Thanks," He winks, "I'll call you." And then he leaves, no limp this time noticeably.
'What the hell just happened?' Mateo thinks as he serves another person. And that thought runs through this head until the end of his shift. As he says his goodbyes he notices his sister out the window of the bar. He heads out the door and greets her.
"Buenos Tardes, Di." he says with a hug
"Hola, Mat," She smiles "how are you today? Anything exciting happen?"
"No, but I might get laid." He replies smiling
"Tmi, ese" she groans
They continue their walk home in silence and Mateo watches as his breath hits the cold air. The snow under his boots crunch and Di hums a tune he doesn't recognize. As they approach the apartment Di giggles a little and Mateo turns to her.
"What's funny?"
"Oh nothing, just a joke someone told me earlier."
"Who's someone?" he cocks a brow
"Oh you know Finny, she's in my medical science class."
"The one you have a crush on?"
"W-what?! No," Di gets red very fast, it runs in the family "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Yes you do, you should invite her over!" He grins "I can make some food and you can introduce me."
"I guess. What day?"
"Maybe Christmas day? If she's here that is, I know lots of students have family dinners and stuff."
"Yeah, okay I'll ask her." She smiles at him "Thanks Mat."
"Anytime Di."

As Mateo lies in bed Paddy is out walking the town attempting to find his target of the night. His target being a seemingly harmless old woman. He pulls his phone out of his coat pocket and contemplates texting the cute bartender from earlier. He quickly vetos this idea as his phone would give away his location if he were to be caught. He is confident he won't be, but it's better to be safe than on death row for the murders of 16 soon to be 17 people. He looks at the address on the screen and puts his phone away, he knows he's at least on the right street.
As he turns another corner he sees his targets house, a small cozy home. This woman however is anything but her appearance, she has abused countless animals and children, and never been arrested or punished for it.
'Well, that's about to change.' Killian thinks as he approaches the house.
He slowly makes his way around the front to the side of the house, there's a small window that he pries open slowly and quietly. He lifts himself into the house and pulls his legs through the window shutting it till it's barely open. Killian glances around and notices there are only two rooms in her home, he assumes one the bathroom and the other a bedroom. He creeps slowly to the closer door and opens it a crack, it's her room and she seems to be asleep. Opening the door more, he approaches the side of her bed, takes out his scian and cuts her throat; Severing her jugular and vocal cords. He watches as she trashed and slowly bleeds out, trying to scream but nothing coming out. Before she can die he does what his nickname entails and bashes her skull with the hilt of his sword.
The media has given him the nickname Paddywhacker, he's not fond of it but he doesn't hate it either. He may be seen as a serial killer by the police and media, but he sees himself as more of a vigilante, punishing those who the law doesn't. Killian is the judge and the punishment is whatever he see's fit.*Scian: a sword originating in Ireland with a very specific hilt style.
