Didn't See That Coming

"Lesson Two is simple, because we don't fight, but instead, I tell you what a Vortex Release is."

"Oh yeah... You shouted those words in our battle earlier... What was that?" I said as I pointed at the gaping hole in the wall in the kitchen.

"Sit down, Ree. This'll be a long, serious talk."

I pulled up a brown chair, and I sat. Granny Gigi gave me another cup of warm black tea. She took a sip of her tea, and cleared her throat. "A Vortex Release is the second, and final stage of a Rift power. Rift is simply the basic name for your special ability, every Rift is formed through an incantation, or simply put, saying the name of the power. Knowing the name of your power makes it stronger, you see..."

I thought about the white net I had formed before, at my house.

"So, a Vortex Release is what I showed you before in our fight. The God Slaying Spear, is when I concentrate the power of all my hair into a single condensed beam of black, obliterating my enemy completely. However, you incinerated it with your The Glare, which is funny, because a Rift shouldn't be able to shun/overpower a Vortex Release. Maybe this is because you possess a Rift stronger than my own, or something."

"W-Wait... These Vortex Releases... Are you insinuating that I have one? But, my The Glare is already so powerful, and hard to use... How could it get any stronger?!"

"If I'm being honest, I have no clue. But the fact of the matter is... This boy you speak of, he must possess a Vortex Release, and if you want to take him down, you'll need one of your own."

"But that's just silly. I can make flames that can reduce ANYTHING into ash, why would I need to get stronger?"

"There is a concept you do not understand about Rifts. Regardless of how strong they are, there is another system to take into consideration. Spirit Energy. This Spiritual Power resides in our souls, and it is what fuels our Rifts. 

Whenever we enter our Vortex Release, we become stronger in power, which means that it gets stronger in level of Spirit Energy. I know I said you may possess a Rift stronger than my own, but it may have something to do with you simply possessing stronger Spirit Energy, which means you have potential to be a very strong member of our family. However, that has never happened in years, so I highly doubt that."

Spirit Energy... Vortex Release... Rift... These new terms flooding in my mind, it became a lot to think about it...

"...This is all a lot... I don't know what to say..."

"It's fine, sweetie. Lesson Two is over now."

"That's it?"

"Yes. Lesson Three is much simpler. We'll fight to the death until you attain your Vortex Release."

"HEY! You said it was simple, granny! I don't want to fight you again!"

"It is simple, just not easy."

Me, and Granny Gigi were outside of her house, and in her massive backyard. Her backyard was nothing like mine. There were no fences, simply a huge forest, with beautiful flowers everywhere. There were so many, I would have to constantly try my best not to step on one. All the beautiful flowers everywhere, and the humongous trees all around us, it was... Probably not the best place to fight in now that I think about it because we would destroy the nature, and I could probably cause a forest fire, but I digress.
