AN: this will be a collection of one shots, moments that came to my head. The first one, Olive takes Adam ice skating for the first time.
"You know, I could just walk with my eyes closed," Adam pointed out as they struggled to walk. She was walking on the tips of her feet, her hands stretched to cover his eyes. "It'd be a lot easier. I promise I won't look,"
Olive stumbled as she guided Adam to the mystery location. "No," she smiled, "it's way more fun this way!"
They made their way through the crowd slowly, the wind blowing softly. "And... we're here," They stopped walking, Olive spread her arms dramatically with a smile, "Tada!"
"No." Adam stared blankly at the ice rink, "Absolutely not,"
Olive's smile didn't drop, not even for a second, "Come on! It'll be fun,"
"I don't skate," He shook his head.
Olive grabbed his sleeve and started pulling him towards the rink, ignoring his protests. It was mid-winter, and while Olive didn't love the cold, she had waited for this day impatiently. They had gotten up early, or rather, Olive told Adam to make sure she got up early for his surprise.
They went up the steps of the outdoor rink and got in line. Olive studied him, the way he examined the ice rink, his gaze landed on the rows of ice skates lined up by size. His head swiveled to hers, "Communal shoes? You know, if you had told me, I could've gotten us ice skates,"
She shook her head, "This is part of the experience. Besides, you would've tried to get out of it." She reached up and placed a soft kiss on his cheek, "Come on, let's get skates."
They grabbed the shoes, Adam grumbling and scowling as she dragged him over to a bench. "Come on old man, just give it a shot,"
He glared at her as he took his shoes off and she couldn't help but laugh, his "icy" stare would've been a lot more intimidating if he wasn't trying so hard not to smile.
Olive was practically bouncing with excitement as they made their way over to the rink, she stepped on first, using the railing to guide herself. She took a few steps and let the muscle memory kick in, she turned to find Adam clinging to the railing, his face twisted in concentration. She skated over him and took his right hand, he stared at his feet as he took small steps. "Like this," Olive demonstrated her skating. His attempt to copy her was unsuccessful and his foot slipped, he grabbed onto the railing with both hands as his leg slipped. He glared up at her as her face broke into a smile.
"You know," She skated over to him as he pulled himself up, "It's a little funny watching you not have total control of your limbs for once,"
"Glad my failure is entertaining to you," He muttered
"You know what I mean," she took his right hand again.
"I really don't,"
"You're always so graceful," She tried to take his left hand but it was wrapped tightly around the railing, "never clumsy,"
"I'm staying right here," He said as she tried to take his hand again
"You have to move to skate,"
"Smart-ass," he let her take his hand off the railing.
They stood facing each other, "Take a step," their movements were slow, Olive guided his every step. They were so focused on each other that the rest of the world seemed to fade away. That was, until Malcolm and Holden skated up to them.
Olive was the first to notice their presence, they skated over, hand-in-hand with identical smiles on their faces. "Hey!" Holden clapped Adam on his back, "What're you guys doing here?" Adam jumped and slipped, pulling Olive down with him.
She landed on her side, in between Adam's open legs, they both groaned in pain. She looked up at him and burst into laughter, he smiled at her and placed a kiss on her forehead. Malcolm reached out a hand to help Olive up, Holden reached out for Adam. They winced as they stood up, "That's gonna hurt tomorrow," Olive laughed.
"You invited people to witness my humiliation?" Adam shook his head at Olive, "This 'surprise' is abuse."
"I didn't invite them, I swear," Olive raised her hands in mock surrender.
"No you were just talking about it nonstop," Malcolm chimed in
"So obviously we had to stop by," Holden smiled at Adam, "How's it going?"
Olive raised a hand to shield her mouth from Adam's view, "Let's just say he shouldn't quit academia any time soon,"
"I can hear you," He scowled at her, "You just wait,"
"Oh yeah?" She looked up at him, her eyes shining with a challenge, "What're you gonna do?"
"You'll see," He gave her a mischievous smile, they stared at each other intensely.
Malcolm cleared his throat, popping their little bubble, "We were thinking of going for some coffee,"
"What do you say? Another double date?" Holden looked back and forth between them, waiting for a response.
Adam sighed, "Anything to get off this ice,"
Olive wiggled her eyebrows, "Anything?" Adam's eyebrows shot up, "Not that!" She swatted his arm as heat rose to her cheeks and Holden burst out laughing, "I meant let me order for you,"
Adam sighed, "Fine."
They made their way over to the exit and this time, Adam dragged Olive over to the bench. He sat down and immediately began taking off the ice skates. She sat next to him and leaned over, bringing her lips to his ear. She whispered, "Definitely some of that too," She leaned away but he pulled her face back and pressed his lips to hers. Her fingers slipped into his hair, pulling him closer.
"You drive me crazy," He said when she pulled away.
"Good."
