You kept your distance when Jimin spoke to your family and Jungkook, occasionally peeking out from the wall to hear more clearly.

There were amused coos that slipped from your mother's mouth, and Jungkook's laughter greeted your ears.

Crinkling your brows, you began to doubt if the plan would work. You had yet to know Jungkook, but it was too late. There wasn't much else to know about him.

If he was willing to throw Taehyung under the bus, you could not plan a happy future with him.

When the chatter died down, you peeked your head again to notice the sitting area had been vacant.

The entrance to the music room was only a few feet away, the soft chime of the piano keys coming from the opened doorway.

Walking on your toes in an attempt to silence the clicking of your heels, you took a deep breath to calm your nerves. Your fingers traced the cool walls to keep your balance.

"My, how ravishing you look today," you heard beside you.

Swallowing hard, you whirled around and practically fell into the doorway of the music room. Your heart thumped in your ears, making your already wobbly legs ready to give out from underneath you.

"Why are you slinking against the wall like a snake?" Jungkook chuckled, holding out a hand to steady you. "He's too focused to care about your footsteps."

You side-eyed your cousin, who ran into the hallway, appearing out of breath. Sweat sparkled along the skin of his forehead.

It was stupid of you to think it was going to work.

Jungkook was much wittier than that. He was not going to leave you alone with Taehyung by any means.

If he hadn't already speculated anything between you, he didn't want anything to start. That was made clear.

"Oh, Sir Park," he added, checking your cousin up and down with a stiffened lip. "Were you that tired of the familial chit-chat? It seems you need another bath."

Jimin breathlessly laughed, though you could tell it wasn't genuine. He had always been good at hiding his emotions and stress from everyone, but you knew him too well to not pick up on it.

"My aunt can sure be a talker once she gets started," Jimin replied, stealing glances toward you. "I had excused myself to the bathroom."

Jungkook laughed, and the piano keys halted as soon as they rang through the halls.

"Oh, now I see why you were tiptoeing, Lady Y/N. He is sensitive to our voices," Jungkook stated, winking in your direction.

You forced a smile with a nod. Gaping between the two men who stood before you, the tension as thick as a brick, you slightly bowed.
