KUROO CAN'T WAIT.
he's been so excited to go home, to get back to some sort of routine and see his family again. but most of all, he's looking forward to finally being able to be with you. he knows how clingy he sounds right now, and just the thought of it brings a laugh to slip past his lips.
"hey," kenma calls out, picking up his purple blanket with an expectant look towards kuroo. "can you help me fold this? i don't want to get this dirty." the boy sighs, glancing at the clock, "we have an hour left before the bus leaves." kuroo nods wordlessly and takes the other end to the blanket, the boys fold the edges and corners together, pushing it into kenma's suitcase and zipping the suitcase closed.
"i should pack my bags too." kuroo says, turning away. the boy, who is probably not the most organised person you will meet, stuffs all of his clean and unworn clothes into his suitcase, and the dirty, crumpled up ones into a white plastic bag. "you excited to get back home?" kuroo asks kenma over his shoulder, sparing a quick glance at the blonde.
"i mean, sure." kenma shrugs nonchalantly, "i think it'll be cool to get back to the comfort of my own room, you know?" the blonde reaches into his backpack to fish for his nintendo switch, "you're excited, aren't you?" kenma smiles, it's small and slow - but it's there.
kuroo turns around, a grin of his own playing at his lips. "what do you mean?" the boy asks, feigning confusion.
"you know what i mean, getting home." the blonde says, "to get back to y/n, and be her little loverboy."
"wow!" kuroo gasps dramatically, "firstly, i think i'm actually making a lot of progress, okay? and secondly - what's it to you?" the boy rolls his honeyed eyes teasingly, "maybe you'd like someone too if you weren't so into playing video games instead of trying your hand at social interaction." the boy laughs, punching his friends shoulder lightly.
kenma grimaces, "i'll pass. affection disgusts me."
"reallyyyy, kenny??" kuroo grins, swiftly reaching out and ruffling the shorter boys bleached hair, "are you sure about that?" kuroo takes one look at kenma's disheveled hair and unamused expression before bursting into laughter, "you're so cute, kenma!"
"you're so weird." kenma shakes his head, caught off guard but completely content. "i wonder how y/n deals with you." he huffs out quietly, crossing his arms.
"y/n, are you sure? i can come with you if you want?" one of your friends offers, a kind smile on their face. she's a sweet girl, but you know she has other after school responsibilities to see to as house captain.
"look, i'll be fine." you give her a reassuring grin, "i'm just gonna sort my books out so i can get out of school faster and see kuroo before he's taken the bus home, don't stress." before she can get another words in, you turn on your heels and give her a quick wave before rounding the hall's corner - "i'll see you later, alligator!"
as soon as the words leave your mouth, you cringe. but the few seconds of embarrassment wash away almost as quick as they came, part of the happiness and excitement blossoming in your heart is due to the fact that your best friend is finally coming home today.
you can manage without him, as you did your whole life save for the past year or so, but being so used to having the boy by you as a comforting presence leaves you grateful he's finally coming back. you're also excited to hear how his games went.
