It was a cold and foggy winter day in a small town in England, perfect weather if you ask Newt. On days like these you will normally find the blonde headed boy in a small local cafe with a book in his hand and a hot tea in front of him. Which brings us to where we are.
It was a week before Christmas and Newt finally had the day off from his job as a writer for the newspaper in town, so he went to do his favorite thing. He walked down the streets of London that were decorated in Christmas garlands and covered with festive decorations to arrive at his destination. The Glade Cafe, it was definitely an interesting name, but it was a perfect place.
Walking through the doors he heard the jingle of the bell and immediately smelt the scent of fresh coffee and baked goods, he was in heaven. Continuing with his routine Newt stepped in line and made his way to the counter where he ordered a hot peppermint tea and thanked the worker before grabbing his drink and heading to his usual seat. His seat gave him the perfect view of the festive streets outside as he looked through the rain covered window. After staring at the view for a bit he sipped on his tea and read a book he had grabbed from his bag titled Dead Poets Society.
The sound of a bell dinging broke him out of his reading trance and had his eyes met a sight better than what was outside the cafe window. A tall brunette man stood at the door with a curious and confused look on his face as he took in his surroundings. Newt was blown away by the look of this man and knew he had to find a way to speak to him. As the man made his way to the counter to order Newt followed him to the line and acted like he was about to order something when the brunette spoke before he could.
"Hey, what do you recommend I get?" Newt heard the cute man say with an American accent.
Trying to collect himself after getting spoken to by the amazingly attractive stranger, Newt stuttered before replying with "Um, the hot cocoa and a chocolate croissant."
Staring at Newt with a strange look of fondness and curiosity the man smiled and turned to order with Newt frozen in place thinking of what to do now. "I'm Newt by the way." he hurried out after the stranger ordered.
"Thomas." he got in response along with a smile.
Putting on his brave face the blonde smiled back and said, "Come sit with me, yeah?" as he began limping back to his seat with Thomas following him, food and drink in hand.
Once they were sat at Newt's table across from each other they began feeling more comfortable and Thomas had set his food down as Newt watched him fondly. Looking up from his food Thomas looked straight into Newt's eyes causing the boy to get a red tint along his cheeks and look away.
"So, um Tommy what are you doing here? I mean I'm guessing you're not from here based on your accent." Newt asked to start a conversation between the cute guy not meaning to let the nickname slip out.
"Oh yeah, I'm from America, obviously. I just came here for a family trip; my sister goes to university here and has a house so we're staying with her this holiday." Thomas had stated as he looked into Newt's chocolate-colored eyes.
"Well, it is beautiful here during this time of the year." Newt replied with a smile before sipping his tea.
Not being able to take it slow and letting his curiosity overtake him Thomas called out the adorable stranger "So I saw you staring at me as I walked in." Newt nearly spit out his drink. After seeing the flustered look on the blonde's face Thomas quickly comforted him "Don't worry I thought it was endearing, and cute."
At this point Newt's face is completely red and he's looking down at his lap. How could this boy be so forward but look so out of place in this new city? Were all Americans like this or was this boy just special. Wait he had said cute... "You think I'm cute?" Newt had asked before having time to think about it.
Now it was Thomas' turn to blush "I mean yeah, how could I not as soon as I walked in you looked up with your comforting eyes and put down your book to stare at me, it had looked as if the world around you stopped." He didn't hold back on how it felt, he was only in London for a short time so why not let his thoughts out and see what happens with him and this boy. Maybe it was only his world that had stopped around him when seeing the boy stare, but he had to see if the other boy thought that too.
Blushing Newt was now looking directly into Thomas' eyes taking in their soft color and looking over the features of his face from his dopey grin to his random freckles. "Well, I think you're cute to Tommy." Confidence had taken over; Newt was smiling straight at this random boy he had just complimented hoping and waiting for more.
Thomas couldn't help but smile at the new nickname the cute brit had given him. After their confessions Thomas had continued to eat his food and drink his cocoa as Newt went back to his book. The two sitting in a comforting silence.
A comfortable silence until Newt broke it with a cheeky remark "You know Tommy, this is a very cliche first date." Thomas immediately looked up with a grin and happiness in his eyes.
"A date? Moving a bit fast aren't we blondie, I mean I barely know you." Thomas replied as he propped his arm on the table and leaned against his hand as he looked at Newt.
"Well dates are good for getting to know each other." Newt told Thomas with a wink at the end, losing all shyness around the boy.
After around an hour of just sitting in the cafe and talking to each other the boys had to leave for the sake of not loitering, even though they didn't want to leave each other yet. The boys had finished getting up from the booth and had thrown away all their trash, heading to the door until Newt stopped them and pulled out his phone.
"Before we parted, could I get your phone number because this was just too good to walk away from." He smiled, handing his phone to Tommy.
"Of course, here put your number in mine." Thomas handed his phone to Newt then they both put in their contacts.
When receiving their phones back from one another they read "Thomas <3" which Newt would later change to Tommy, and "Newt <3". Seems the two definitely felt mutual. As they had begun walking under the door to exit the cafe Thomas quickly pulled Newt to his chest and kissed him.
Newt could barely register what was happening, this cute boy he just met a few hours ago was kissing him. Newt had begun to kiss back until Tommy pulled away too soon for his liking. "What was that for?" He had asked, still holding onto his shirt thankful no one was near the cafe because he didn't want to move from the door.
"Well, we're under mistletoe and who am I to break tradition?" Thomas smiled looking into Newt's eyes and seeing the boy's smile falter at the mention of it being because of a tradition. "Plus, you're super cute." He quickly added with a kiss on the cheek.
Newt simply replied with "You missed." Then quickly pulled the other in for a real kiss. A kiss that stopped everything around them. A kiss that was brighter than the Christmas lights covering the city. A kiss that felt like the universe had meant for this to happen. A kiss that could make someone believe in love at first sight.
This kiss made Christmas come early, Happy Holidays to them.
