"Now remember, the purpose of this mission is information recon." Steve announces, "we are only here to see what they know about our underground status."
"Alright," Nat claps, continuing the instructions, "we've got plenty of personnel for the particular mission, so if you are not ready or prepared then you can sit this one out."
She pretends that she's referring to the group as a whole, but I can tell by the uneasy glances in my direction that she's speaking directly to me.
"As you know, Agent Romanoff will be deep undercover by the main server room along with the actual government workers. She will be our access to the mainframe server. Then, Lilliana will lead the tech team through the facility, using her senses to guide her. Once we're 'a go' with acquiring access, Agent Barton will create a distraction, so we can download the data without being detected. Make sure to get in and out without being detected. If things go south, and we are detected, it could compromise the following missions. Be vigilant. Let's go."
He gives Nat a nod telling her to move out. She casually opens the back door of the van and struts toward the building, fake ID in hand.
A younger agent hands me an earpiece to guide Nat through the halls by sensing the danger.
"Alright, Na- Agent Romanoff, can you hear me?" I ask with a grin to hide my mistake.
"Yep, loud and clear." She whispers in return. I can hear the smirk in her voice. Nat noticed my mishap as well, and definitely found it amusing.
'take a left in twenty feet'
"Ok, take the next left..." I glance at the screen mirroring the camera clipped to her uniform, "... At the vending machine."
Nat comes to a stop.
'take a right in 15 feet'
'go straight with the next two stops'
'take a left'I guide her deep into the server wing of the government facility.
"Excuse me," a man steps in her way, holding his hand out, "I don't recognize you. Let me see your clearance."
"Oh of course," she acts innocently, "I'm new here, probably why." Nat pulls the ID out of her pocket and presents it to him. She makes sure to give him a small smile when she does.
The security guard scans her up and down before returning the card and moving out of her way, "Hope you have a nice time, sweetheart." He smirks, attempting to smack her on the way out. But, Nat subtlely moves out of reach before he can. I can hear a scoff leave her lips.
"Make a right turn and keep moving until you reach a broom closet on your left. Stay in that closet until I say otherwise." I state clearly.
"Isn't the server mainframe to the left?" She asks curiously, "... Is your sense ever wrong?"
"Just trust me on this one. Hurry up before he turns the corner." I scramble, slightly frustrated, "... And no, my sense hasn't been wrong yet."
"Hm," Nat considers before jiggling the handle and resting in the broom closet.
I wait patiently for the off feeling my sense provides. I can almost picture the security guard walking back towards his post.
"Now," I pause, following the route through my head, "follow the left hall until you reach a man posted in front of the server mainframe. Show him your badge. It's about time for a shift change, so he should leave the post to you."
I watch the old security postman fall for our rouse and leave the post to Natasha.
"Coming your way, Agent Romanoff."
The tech team and I gear up and move out, weaving through the same path I created for Nat.
Everything rolls smoothly, tech team members loosely following my from behind, in an attempt to not draw suspicion. Until, I'm stopped by the same stupid security guard.
"Excuse me, I need some ID." He grumbles. (My guess would be that he doesn't like this job very much)
I roll my eyes slightly but comply.
The guard looks me up and down, just like he did with Nat, "You know," he lights a cigarette and places it in his mouth, "you look kinda like that bastard Avenger, Madame Future. You know, the one that's on the run from like every government there is? Probably cause she's a bitch," he mumbles the last part, blowing a puff of smoke in my face, ''Anyone ever told you that?"
He's just trying to get on your nerves. He's a narcissist. 'Just trying to get on your nerves. Leave it alone. Don't do anything stupid, you need the distraction. Leave it-
"You know?" He asks again with a cocky smile.
"You know," I reply furiously, "smoking is bad for you. 'Anyone ever told you that?"
Before I can stop myself, I've smacked the man so hard that the cigarette flies out of his mouth and coincidentally into a nearby trash can.
"Lilliana, that isn't part of the plan!" I hear Steve shout in my ear, "What are you doing?!"
"What the hell, lady?!" He grumbles grabbing both sides of my arms.
I use my immense amount of strength to rip his hands away. Kicking his feet out from under him in the process.
"Lilli- What the hell are y- tech team move along without her- quickly!" Steve scrambles over the coms. It's followed by a loud banging sound, "get the information downloaded, now!"
The security guard, Tim Murphy, as stated on his ID tag, brings a strong force to the table. He may be strong, but for a security guard, Tim isn't really the smartest.
I'm able to keep him occupied for the three minutes it takes for the tech team to complete the download. I figured that I might as well fix a bit of the damage I've caused, and take Clint's job of being the distraction.
"Fully downloaded, Captain." A young male agent announces.
"Get out of there, now." He grumbles.
I give a forceful uppercut to the jaw, before scowling to myself about 'you are out of control' 'how idiotic that decision was' and 'you need to get yourself together'
I quickly leave the scene along with the other agents. One at a time, we arrive back at the van.
I'm the last one in, subconsciously hiding myself from a furious Steve. However, it doesn't work out so nicely for me.
"Maximoff!" He shouts scanning his surroundings for me. When Steve finally locks eyes with me, I can see the immense amount of disappointment and anger written in his eyes, "Come with me!"
Author's Note:
Another chapter down! Lilli is still struggling to get herself under control without Bucky Barnes at her side. Will Steve see that she needs help, like the best friend he should be, or will he tell her that she needs to go back to Wakanda because she isn't safe? I know, and you will find out soon. Anyways, enjoy!
