It was yet another typical and boring day at your office job. Your employer had paid you a few cents over minimum wage for being crammed into your un-decorated cubicle and slaving away on your keyboard. It felt like an eternity as you waited for lunch break.
Tik....Tik...Tik...
Your eyes followed the second hand on the clock intently, as if you could will time to move quicker. After about seven and a half minutes of staring, you gave up on your concentrated effort to make time speed up. Defeated, you slouched in your chair and closed your eyes. In desperation, you screamed into the void of your brain. 'I just wish something exciting would happen for once! Anything that will drag me away from this stupid job, stupid town, and stupid cycle of nothingness! I'm wasting away at a computer screen when I could be doing something worthwhile... Making my mark!' Although you didn't utter a single word, it's like if the universe heard and fulfilled your prayers for "excitement".
A loud hiss of electricity broke you from your internal tangent, startling you to the point of audibly gasping. You peered over the thin make-shift walls that separated you and your coworkers, looking for the origin of the sudden noise. But despite your efforts, your associates looked just as confused as you did. It sounded again. This time, accompanied by the unsettled voice of your supervisor.
"Attention, valued employees of Logical Mathematics Incorporated," He started. "We are entering our immediate emergency protocol. This is not a drill, I repeat, this is not a drill. Please see to the second drawer of your filing cabinet and find the packet labeled 'Emergency Orders'. If you are missing your copy, please read off of one of your colleague's papers." You fumbled with your large collection of keys as you tried to find the one labeled with your cubicle and floor number. You finally managed to find it and put it into the lock. "Go to page 43 and read from section one to section five, the top of the page should be labeled 'What To Do in a Case Of Exterior Threats from Warfare'." You bent down and picked up the bound laminated papers. Before you could even flip through the pages, a loud whistle makes you instinctively cover your ears. You squeezed your eyes shut and gritted your teeth in pain from the deafening noise. An uproar of screams fill your ears as the world around you fades black...

A cold hand on your forehead jolts you awake, a loud gasp accompanying the sudden movement. The hand recoils before it rests on your cheeks, the cold temperature soothing the burning on your face. "I see you're finally awake," A woman spoke softly to you, a thick foreign accent easily discernible in her speech. "You're lucky to be alive, y'know."
"Wait a second, where am I? And you're saying I DIDNT dream of my office building getting bombed?"
"Unfortunately, no. It was quite real. You're the only employee who survived..." The mysterious gray eyed woman seemed to be lost in thought a brief moment before continuing. "Oh, right, how rude of me.." She gives you a soft smile, her long canines capturing your gaze. "I'm Tori."
"I'm Y/N.."
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Y/N," The way your name rolled off her tongue made you look away from her. "But if you excuse me, I have duties to attend to. A nurse will be in here shortly." She gave a small wave, you raising your hand awkwardly just as she turned around and left the room. The moment she was finally out of sight and you were on your own, you took this time to look around the room.
'This looks like a hospital... But it also seems too run-down and dirty to be one. There aren't even windows in this room, so I have no idea how bad the warfare destroyed everything.'
While you were too busy studying your environment, another person had entered the room.
"Good evening Y/N, I see you are awake and your vitals are starting to turn back to normal. How much do you remember of what happened before coming here?
"Well.. I was at work, and then there was this disaster warning on the intercom.. Then this ear-piercing whistle of what I assume was a bomb." You recalled.
"Okay, so you don't remember anything after that?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Okay, thank you. I'll be back." The woman with the black bob walked out in a hurry, her urgency making you feel a bit uneasy.

(NO POV)
"C-Commander Larsson?" Nurse Kea knocks softly on Tori's chamber door, waiting for permission before entering.
"What is it?" She sighs.
"Now that the survivor is awake... What are we going to do with her?"
"For right now, just make her healthy. Bring her back to full stength, then I'll make my decision."
"Yes, my leader." Just as quickly as the woman entered, she was gone again. Tori inhales her cigar's fume before puffing out the smoke back into the air. She clearly has a plan, but have yet to share it yet. She was still playing it over in her head, trying to think of all of the possible outcomes. After toying with the idea, she finally decided that it was worth the risk... She was going to assign Y/N to be her assistant and English translator.
