Chapter 16 : The Last Day / The Sun Also Rises / As I Lay Dying

Alaric's Residence

Katherine and Daniel are looking for blood bags in the fridge. They hear the key in the lock. They get up and go to the door. It's Alaric. He stands outside his apartment without entering. "Look who's dumb enough to come back." Katherine said to him. "Well, somebody had to invite him in. Damon. Would you like to, uh, come in?" Alaric said to Damon.

Damon comes in and she rushes over to him. "Are you trying to get us killed?" Daniel asked him. Damon pushes him against a wall. "gave you vervain, now I'm here to collect. I got it from here, Rick." Damon said. "You sure?" Alaric asked. "Yeah, only one of us needs to get blamed for this. Get back in the house. Keep Elena from handing herself over." Damon told him." Okay." Alaric said and leaves.

"Get blamed for what?" Katherine asked him. "I need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf." Damon asked them. "Why? What are you going to do?" Daniel asked him. "Dead werewolf equals no ritual." Damon said. "No. You can't interfere, Damon. Klaus will kill you and everyone you've ever met." Katherine said worried as she doesn't want to die or Daniel to die. "I just need to delay this thing." Damon said irritated. "No. No way." Daniel said.

"You should like this. It's going to buy another month of your pathetic lives." Damon said. "Right. Except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing." Katherine said. "What?" Damon asked. "Yeah. He's got Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood. Therefore, She's in the clear." Daniel said. "And where'd he get that idea from?" Damon said moving towards him.

Daniel holds up his hands in innocence. "Hey! Hey, hey, hey, We're just trying to stay alive long enough to get ourselves out of here." Daniel told him. "What happened to you? What happened to the sweet, caring Daniel I used to know?" Damon asked him brother. "He had his neck snapped. And when he died, I woke up, and I only care for myself and Katherine. Everyone else can die for all I care." Daniel said to his brother.

"What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?" Damon asked them. "What?!" Katherine said. "Imagine how much fun that will be." Damon said to them. "The tomb. He's got them in the tomb." Katherine told him. "Thank you." Damon said before leaving.

Later

Katherine and Daniel are making coffee. Klaus arrives. "Everything okay?" Katherine asked him. "What have you been doing?" Klaus asked them. "Making coffee. Do you want some?" Daniel asked him. He rushes over to Katherine, grabs her by the throat and compels her. "Tell me what you've been doing." He said to her. "Making coffee." She replied. He releases her and she holds her neck, gasping and turns around heading towards Daniel.

"Wait. Take off your bracelet." Klaus said to her. She takes it off and gives it to Daniel. "Now, I want you...to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight." Klaus said. "But she'll burn." Daniel said. "She doesn't have a choice." Klaus told him. She stands in the sunlight and the side of her face exposed to the sunlight starts to burn. She keeps screaming. Klaus looks at her with a smile. He lets her burn for a moment.

"That's enough." Klaus said. She rushes over to the corner of the room, in the shadows. "Guess I was wrong. All right, then. I need you to do something for me." Klaus said. Daniel rushed over to her and gives her the bracelet and helps her up.

Later

Klaus enters the apartment. "Where's Maddox? He should be back by now." Klaus said. "We don't know." Katherine said to him. Klaus sits down and opens the laptop. It shows a live video of Jules lying on the floor of a cellar, chained to the wall. "What are you doing? Where's Elena?" Daniel asked Klaus. "I sent her off with Greta." Klaus said to him. He's looking at Jules, who's transitioning.

"It's almost time." Klaus said to no one in particular. The door opens. Katherine and Daniel look at the door. "I wasn't aware you'd been invited in." Klaus said not facing the door. Damon's standing behind Klaus. "I've come here to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual." Damon told Klaus.
