I waste no time rushing up the floating cards this time.
Out of breath, I stop short.
I am a few feet behind an eccentric chair. The occupant is wearing an insanely tall hat.
Insanely.. nothing seems normal anymore.
On either side I see a March Hare and a Dormouse. They are tied to their seats and being forced to drink this rancid smelling "tea", as the Hatter calls it.
"Drink up, my friends! The changes it produces are essential for my.. experiments."
I'm speechless but a name is echoed in my head.
Hatter. MAD Hatter.
"Hatter!" I scream "what do you think you're doing?"
The Hare stammers "A-Alice? Mouse! Look! She's back!"
The Mouse looks up at me. His eyes brightening as soon as I'm in sight. "My dear Alice. You've come to save Wonderland!"
The Hatter stands "We don't need saving. We need assimilation."
The Hare looks down, appearing upset. "Wonderland is in ruins.." he mumurs.
As I hear this, my fists clench, I'm animated.
I feel violated. As if someone has claimed my best friend as their own. Wonderland is mine.
And here?
We are free.
"Take a seat my dear girl!"
I relax slightly.
I seat myself at the end of the extravagant table, across from the Hatter.
I stare at him.
I am planning.
Planning my rescue of Wonderland and hopefully, my sanity.
