[A/N: Thanks for reading! This is my first fanfiction! I'm hoping to have a weekly release schedule xChrista ]

Narcissus had never wanted to go to the School, but it was what her mother wanted, and there were thousands more talented and much more Evil children applying who were better than her, so she didn't feel nervous about submitting an application.

Until the acceptance letter came.

"My daughter got in!" Her mother proudly croned, dancing around the kitchen while Narcissus dutifully stirred a potion brewing in the cauldron. It was starting to bubble which meant soon three spoonfuls of eye of newt would need to be added.

"We'll have to go shopping, get you some new dresses, black of course, and big so you can grow into them. I know they provide uniforms but what if a spell goes wrong? Or a classmate stabs you? Always good to have a few spares. And that hag Trixie said "I've never done anything worthwhile, well who gave birth to the daughter that's going to be famous!."

"Mother!" Narcissus said, "I don't, I don't know if I want to go."

Her mother stopped, eyes boring into her, "What do you mean?"

Narcissus stared into the bubbling goo, trying not to collapse from the tension, "Only so many students become leaders, and a third... what if I get ... mogrified?" She whispered as she imagined losing her body, cursed to be a rat or a cockroach forever. She could learn so much at the School, and lose so much more, that the allure of knowledge had never overpowered the consequences of failure.

"Oh Narcissus," Her mother's tone softened and she placed a hand on her daughter's shoulder in a move that could almost be interpreted as motherly. "You are smart and have some talent, you'd make a wonderful henchman, leaders would be nothing without them, you certainly won't be mogrified." She gave her shoulder a squeeze and went back to her dancing, listing off the tasks to be done and items to be bought before move in day. Narcissus continued to stir, gripping the handle tight enough to crack it, there was no hope, for the next four years, she'd be fighting for survival.

Penelope was everything you'd expect of a fairy tale princess, her waist length hair was luscious and the color of spun gold. Her eyes were the color of emeralds, her lips were full and pink, she had delicate hands, and a delicate voice. "She'll have a lovely fairy tale." People would say. "She'll be perfect for her prince one day." Others sighed. It was only natural she applied to the School of Good and Evil. And it was no surprise to anyone in the castle when she got in.

"You'll do wonderfully!" Her mother sang in her soprano voice, while primping her in front of the mirror. "You're beautiful, radiant, soft spoken, you'll make your future prince feel like a real man, they need that validation."

She was soft spoken and demure, Penelope was quite shy, in truth, once she felt comfortable with a person she could talk for hours. She had many thoughts on fairy tales, and fabrics, and opinions on gardens and flowers, theories on medicine and the application of herbal remedies. But no one ever wanted to know more about Penelope so these words stayed behind closed lips.

Not for long though, Penelope thought, because she was going to the School for Good and Evil, she was going to fall in love, she was going to get a happy ending, she was going to meet somebody who would listen to her.
