"What you doin for Christmas Ms. Evans?" One of her students asked her on a very chill Monday afternoon. It was currently December 14th, and everyone was more than ready to get the week over so Christmas break could start— and Simone was definitely included in that 'everyone'.

Even though Jordan was still working, she couldn't wait to be able to spend as much time with him as possible without having to worry about being up at 5 in the morning to get to work for 7 am.

"I'm spending it with my family," she answered as she walked around the classroom, handing the students their graded reading quizzes they took the previous Friday.

"When you say family, you not talking bout that lame ass nigga that you had up in here last Monday, are you?" Marcus, one of her more outspoken students, asked.

"Who Ms. Evans had up in here?" Another student asked.

"I don't know," one of the girls that had been there when Jordan came responded. "But he was fine as he—"

"Okay, that's enough" Simone stopped them in the middle of their conversation "Now y'all know that isn't how we talk in my class, and none of you need to be worrying about my personal life. So stop, now."

"I'm just saying," the same first boy shrugged. "He ain't right for you Ms. Evans."

"Marcus, bruh just shut up," a girl who barely ever talks in class muttered. "You always running your mouth, and don't nobody wanna hear that."

"First off Melina, wasn't nobody talking to you."

"And no one's ever talking to you, Marcus, yet your mouth doesn't ever stop moving," Simone defended one of her favorite students, which got a few snickers from the class, and a smile from Melina.

"If he really is your boyfriend, not that it's any of our business," Melina made sure to add. "I'm happy for you."

"Thank you Melina," Simone was genuinely happy to hear her say that.

"I want you to be happy too Ms. Evans," Marcus started speaking again. "I just wanna make sure this nig— man don't do you wrong. Cause we care about you for real. You our favorite teacher."

"I can assure you I'm more than capable of taking care of myself, but thank you Marcus."

Her students mean the world to her, and the fact that they actually care about her that much— sometimes too much— can make them a bit overbearing at times.

"Where's the kids at?" Simone asked when she walked into Tiffany's seemingly empty home after she left work that same day.

"Greg picked them up from school today. He said he's taking them to get food before he brings them back."

"I see he's actually making more of an effort to see them now," Simone sat down at the kitchen counter.
