If Lakshmi held nothing else to her name, she held beauty. Just as Saraswati had her mind, and Parvati her courage, she had beauty. And she wielded it splendidly. It was a weapon her weapon and she knew it.

She had cheekbones sharper than the blades of swords and a mouth redder than rubies. Her eyes were striking and dark against her golden skin, inevitably drawing attention to them.

People used to say that she was the stealer of everyone 's hearts .

Draped in red saree, bedecked with gold ornaments, seated on a lotus, pot in hand, flanked by white elephants, the image of Lakshmi adorns most Hindu homes and business establishments.

Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness. She holds the promise of material fulfilment and contentment. She is described as restless, whimsical yet maternal, with her arms raised to bless and to grant.

Just as the word 'aum' is associated with the mystical side of life, the word 'shri' is associated with the material side of existence.
