One day

It was a normal day really, I was hanging out with my best friend ,Amy Webster with had just came from the lake and we had decided that we go back to my house and sat in the grass.
The sun was high in the sky and it was about let's say 79 degrees It was a really nice day till the alarms start going off on every phone line in the city.
My phone started to buzz with all the news updates. The 1st one I read said :
STAY IN HOMES AND LOCK DOORS!
I looked at Amy, she was still scrolling on her phone.
"Amy!" I yelled at her " don't just sit around get up"
I grabbed her by her wrist making her drop her phone.
"Leave it" I said pulling her into the house and closing the door . I found my mother and my 5 year old brother in the hallway making their way to the basement .
"Where are you going?"Amy asked
"Didn't you here?"my mother had a look of horror on her face " there's an attack!"
"Good gracious" Amy said
"Come on everyone" I said opening the basement door " there's no time to lounge around and tell our life story"
Peter grabbed my hand as my mother and Amy walked down to basement .
"I'm scared, Jayden " Peter whispered
I bent down and looked Peter in the eyes and said
"Everything is going to be okay we just have to be quiet for a few minutes " I said as I lightly pushed Peter to the stairs."now go wait with mommy"
He started to walk down the steps I closed the door behind me , and cursed in my head for not having a lock on the door. I turned the light off as a walked down the steps.
Big mistake .
Peter started screaming like a maniac , I ran down the steps and picked him up.
"It's okay" I whispered in his hair repeatedly "it's okay"
There was a little light coming through the small window, I made my way safely across the basement and sat by my mom.I still had Peter in my hands so I moved him around and got my phone out of my pocket , and put it on silent. There was about 50+ news alerts .
This was going to be a long day.

It's been about two hours and my knees were num cause Peter was sleeping on my lap , Amy was passed out in the corner and my mother was resting her eyes.
But than I heard a big car come to a stop and I here feet getting out. My mother quickly opens her eyes and my face feel with alarm.
"Get underneath the steps" my mother whispered as she shook Amy .
Amy and I moved underneath the stairs as my mother stayed put. I shook Peter.
I put my finger to my mouth and he got the message .
We started to here banging on the other houses around us. We heard two gun shots than they started banging on our door.
"Breathe quietly"I whispered and than we heard the door fly open , Peter closed his eyes and I held him tight , Amy grabbed my hand and started to squeeze .
The started opening doors and stomping there feet everywhere , they moved stuff around and throwing stuff.
Soon they kick the basement door open and I hug Peter tighter, they shine the flash light on my mother who's in plain sight , I whimpered a little.
They've got her and there's no where to run. She puts her hands up as the wave the guns at her.
"Walk up the steps slowly" a male voice says.
"Where's my children?" My mother says looking concerned "tell me where they are!"
" We don't know" the male voice says
"They were at the lake tell me where they are!"my mother yelled
"If you don't come with me ,I will be forced to shoot""
My mother slowly walked up the stairs and disappeared.

We waited till we didn't here anything but our own heart beats my mother had just risked her life for us .
We got up from hiding and made our way up the steps, I looked at my phone and my mouth fell open.
"What is it?" Amy asked coming up to me.
"Th-they killed the president " I stuttered.
"They did what?!" She said
"The president is dead, they killed him, it's not just happening in Ohio it's happening all over the country ."
"I'm going to go get my phone" she said
"Nooo!" I grabbed her wrist " we go out there together "
"Okay, than lets go"
"No first we have to get the stuff we need to survive "
I made my way to my room it was a baby blue color with white I had a night stand . my dressers were white and I had a desk in the corner that had a lot of papers , books, and crafts on it . I grabbed my purple chair and stood up on it at my closet I got my four most biggest bags , they weren't quite that big but they were the largest , I gave Amy two bags.
"Follow me" I said to my little brother.
I went to his yellow room which had toys everywhere and the lamp was broken " stay right there"
I didn't need him to fall and get a cut.
I grabbed a his small backpack and empty everything that was in it on the floor, I few candy wrappers fell out , some crayons , two pencils, and a small notebook. I also grabbed a white teddy bear that had a blue ribbon around it .
"Gram!" Peter said taking the bear from me . I went back into the room and got two pairs of boxers and one pair of pants and put it in the bag.
I went back to my room and I got four pairs of underwear , two pairs of pants , and two shirts. I stuffed it in the bag.
I made my way to the kitchen ,Amy had the two bags full. There was no more can goods because they all where in the two bags , so I got some snacks like cookies and chips , etc..
There was one empty bag so I get left it. I slid out of my flip flops and I put on my orange tennis shoes that where by the door.
"Put on your tennis shoes , peter" I said to Amy" you can where my moms shoes" I pointed to the purple shoes .
"Fine" Amy said
I helped Peter tie his brown shoes . When I was gone I grabbed the bag and the car keys which were hanging by the door. Peter grabbed my hand and we walked out the front door.
I saw one dead body , it was my neighbor she was 5 months pregnant and she was 27 years old . her hair covered her face and her chest was bleeding. I turned a certain way so Peter wouldn't see it and moved to our car. we had a Chevy it was blue. I throw the bags in the back and I made sure Peter was buckled in . Amy was coming out the house ,she stopped to pick up her phone, her mouth dropped and anger filled her face.
"Do you see this?!" She yelled as she showed me her phone. It had a long crack going down the screen.
"Wow " I said and moved away from her, which only made her madder.
"You did this!" She screamed
" I saved your life" I said " and now your complaining about a stupid phone?"
"I can't believe you!" Amy yelled.
"Wow " I shook my head " would you rather have a stupid crack on a screen or end up like her?"
I pointed to Carly who was dead laying on the ground. Amy faced changed and it looked like she was sick.
"Just get your butt in the car" I said and got into the driver's seat.
She made her way into the back seat next to Peter .
I backed out the drive way and made my way to the highway. there was just cars scattered all over the road and I just had to swerve out the way.
May I add that the high way was a total mess it was actually very had to drive and I did see a few dead people which made me sick to my stomach .

I was sleep and Amy was driving was driving . we were in the lower part of Ohio and when I woke up I saw a dirt road.
"Jayden" Amy said. I opened my eyes to see that there was a car in front of us and two male figures were getting out and they had guns.
It was dark and they weren't in the light so I couldn't see their faces.
"Get out the car " the one on the right said.
I didn't bother to wake up my brother , he would scream like there was no tomorrow .
Amy and I got out the car with our hands up. When I saw the one on the right , he was white and he had light brown hair and dark blue eyes. he had one a gray t-shirt and blue jeans. The one on the left was dark skinned but he wasn't dark at all , he had a nice brown complexion, just like Amy.
" State your name" the one on the right said, he couldn't be no older than me maybe like 19,20. I was 18 so he couldn't be that much older . I toke his comment as a joke.
"What are you the police?" I retorted back.
"No the US army" he said , Amy put her hands down and sighed with relief. she pushes her long curly hair behind her ear and said "thank god"
"Oh so your the big boys?" I said putting my hands down and leaning against my car. The guy on the left laughed and said
"Yeah, and who are you?" He had a masculine voice, the kind of voice that takes control .
"I'm Amy" Amy started.
"I'm Jayden " I said and pointed my thumb at the car " that's my little brother Peter , you boys got a name?"
The left guy smirked.
"I'm Marc " he said
"Cayden" the right guy said.
"So what are you boys doing driving around at night ?" I said " while world war 3 is going on?"
"We might like to ask you the same question" Cayden said
"Well , my dear sir" I said standing up straight "we didn't want to be hostages , now did we Amy?"
Amy shook her head.
" Trying to find the resistance?" Marc asked.
"Not really" I said " just trying to get the hell out of here."
"Just follow us and you might just get the hell out of here" Marc said
"How do we know we can trust you?"
" Because if we were them than you would be dead right now" Cayden retorted .
"Fine" I said hopping into the driver's seat.
Amy got into the passenger seat .
"Ride or die, right?" She said
"Let's ride" I said and we started to follow them.

When drove to a farm land that had a huge barn way in the back . There were a few cars and two buses. We drove all the way to the barn and stopped.
"Peter" I said turning in my seat and tapping him " wake up sweetie "
Peter worked up and his face filled with alarm when he looked at where we were at.
"It's okay, it's going to be alright" I said I turned around and got out the car. I let Peter out and got two of the bags and Amy got there other one.
" What's in the bag?" Cayden asked as Peter held onto Gram tight and hide behind my leg .
" Food .. clothes" I said . Cayden came up to me and grabbed the bags.
"You take care of the kid" he said. I turned around and ruffled Peters dark brown hair.
"What's the matter kid?" I asked
"I'm scared" he mumbled " and tired"
"Aww , poor baby" I said as a picked Peter up."and heavy baby"
Peter giggled and put his had in my neck as I carried him towards the barn.
We walked into the barn .
It was huge like a whole football stadium could fit in it and still have room to spare. The sad part about it was that it was split up into sections. there was a living quarter , training quarter , Technology center and a work area . That was all on the ground floor , the dining area was a the top of the barn ( yes over our heads).
This place was crowded and it was hot maybe a little warm.
" welcome to the heart of the operation" Cayden said spreading his arms out motioning to the whole barn.
"You mean that-" I started
"Yes , there is one in every state" he said explaining "but we were the first ones to know"
"And you didn't tell anyone!" I yelled.
"We actually did tell people" Cayden said knowingly "for three years "
"3 fing years!" I screamed .
"Yhup , but it was nothing against there 15 years of planning this, you see we tried to tell people but if you went up to someone and said 'hey, we are going to be attacked but I don't know when or by who' they would look at you like your a crazy person and that's what they did"
"Ohh" I said dumbfounded.
"Follow us" Marc said making his way to the very back of the barn.
When we got there, it was curtains up and Marc just pushed them aside and when I looked at what was be hind those curtains my mouth dropped.
It looked like the CIA. Was back there , they had computers ,head gear, and other stuff you would find back there.
A white man with gray hair walked towards us. He was a tall muscular man but not too muscular. He had a vein that misty the entire world can see that was on his neck .
He had baby blue eyes that just looked down at you and screamed for you to help them.
"Hills, who are these people?!"He yells.
"Pedestrians" Cayden says.
"Pedestrians?"the man said "why in the hell did you bring random strangers into our fort!, Didn't your mama ever tell you don't talk to strangers?!"
"Yes, sir" Cayden said his face was unreadable and he was standing straight up."but to be honest sir, this girl couldn't even hurt a fly"
This nigga can't be serious .
"Don't judge a book by is cover" I said, and than spit out "Hills"
The man looked at me. Than smiled.
" Young lady you have some guts on ya he said " I'm the General ,but go by the name Captain "
"Jayden"i said " this is Peter my little brother "
"Amy"
The captain faces Cayden and Marc .
"Since you boys thought of adding more people, they'll be spending their sleeping time with you.
"Sir yes sir" Marc said.
"And why in the hell are holding bags" The captions face was turned up.
"Because there's caned goods in here,sir "
" Well, get them to the quarters and stop standing around" he said and turned around and walked back to what he was doing.
I sighed" that was intense "
" Just come on" Cayden said.
We started walking out of the barn and Amy was right next to me , she had whispered .
"Marc's is kinda cute"
I looked at her but kinda agreed .
When we got outside it was getting kinda dark but there was about 10 to 15 shed's that was visible . Cayden and Marc took us to the two that were on the outer edge .
We stopped in front of one of the shed's .
"So I was thinking th-" Cayden started.
"I'll go with Marc"Amy interrupted .
I looked at her and she looked at me and I was said what ever . Amy walked over to Marco and said "lead the way"
Amy and Marc disappeared in the shed next door .
"So I guess.. " Cayden said " just come in"
I carried Peter into the shed there was one window , one bed, one couch , and one dresser. Everything was neatly placed and it was cozy.
"Living the life style " I said.
"Shut up and just get situated " he mumbled" I'll be back I just have to take these to the thing"
"Sure thing ,hills"
"Don't call me that he said walking out and closed the shed door.
I placed Peter down on the couch , he was already sleep. I situated myself on the couch next to Peter and fell asleep before Cayden even came back.
