Rebecca Davies sighed.
It was a long, hot night in Northern Ireland.
She was an assassin.
The Guild had almost killed her, but she was a survivor.
People were screaming; people laid in the rotting ditches, dead.
She wore military clothes, and boots on her feet.
The knife cut deep from attacks.
But, she was used to death, and no one could attack her.
Because if they did so, they would die.
***
Rebecca watched the man.
'You're late'.
'Yes, I am. Besides, Selene was waiting for me'.
'Who is she?', Rebecca asked him.
'The Queen of the Assassin Guild', Tolan Brook answered her.
'I don't know her'.
'She knows of you', Tolan said.
And he smiled.
***
Selene waited.
She walked to the Northern Ireland assassin.
She wore a red scarf around her head; she wore a breast plate across her breasts. She glanced at her, as if she was threatened. 'You're young', she said.
'Yes, and you're the Assassin Queen', Rebecca said.
'Please, let's go for a walk', Selene said.
And Rebecca did.
***
'What do you know about the Assassin's Guild?'.
'Yes. It's secretive. You can't go to someone, and say "I want to join"; you need to fight to survive', Rebecca said.
'Yes, that is a way. Falling over is what babies do; falling, and then walking. Birth is the first stage; the other stages are for girls, is to marry and raise a family with their husbands. You are an Assassin; you fought and won battles. This made others nervous, because you're a teenager; you are not an adult. I can help you, Rebecca'.
'Can you?'.
'Yes, that is what I do at the Academy of Assassins'.
'Academy'.
'Yes, here's the documents. Please sign here on the dotted line'.
'Okay', Rebecca said.
And Selene smiled.
***
Barton Cross shifted the harsh, grey stones. He was thinking about the darkness. It was as if the legs were asleep; it was asleep because it was lagging. He wasn't exercising enough. That was the problem. He saw the girl. She seemed new to the Assassin's Guild; she wasn't nervous. There wasn't a time for her to be nervous. The darkness had gone since last night. Barton watched the stars, and headed towards the house on foot.
***
Rebecca saw Barton.
'Who are you?', she asked him.
'Barton Cross. The Assassin's Guild', he answered.
'Rebecca Davies. The Assassin's Guild'.
'Wasn't your Grandfather Edward Davies?'.
