it had been a week since Wanda came back to the compound with them, and she hadn't left her room. she wouldn't let just anyone in either. it was clear to Steve and Thor that she was terrified of Tony and Bruce, and was still apprehensive about Natasha, even though she had comforted her during the jet ride.

she only let Steve and Thor in her room. Steve and her had been working on making the room hers, and so far they had added a desk, dresser, and a tv. Thor would sit with her for hours, talking about Asgard, and some of his past battles. Steve would often try to convince her to come out of her room, explore the compound, but she would shake her head in defiance.

that was another thing. she didn't speak. the only words she had said since arriving at her new home was her brothers name. she communicated through pointing, and shaking her head yes and no.

Steve knew she wasn't purposely being defiant. she spent years in a HYDRA base, no doubt being pushed to the limits with her abilities during the day, and spending her nights in a cold cell. Steve and Thor knew that she wouldn't open up right away, and that it would take time for her to be herself around them, if that time ever came.

right now, however, Steve's only goal was getting her to explore her new home. it was 10 pm now, and the rest of the team had headed off to bed early with the intention of getting up early to go for a hike, and Steve decided to persuade Wanda to explore the compound.

he knocked on her door, knowing she wasn't asleep. the door unlocked, and Steve smiled seeing the red tint just under the bottom of the door. he opened it, and walked in. Wanda was sitting on her bed, watching Friends on her tv that Tony bought her earlier that day, along with a huge collection of sitcoms for her to work her way through in hoped of dissipating her fear of him.

"hey kiddo," Steve said, sitting down next to her. "can i see your head?" he asked, motioning to the bandaid on her head. Wanda nodded, and turned her head slightly, her eyes remaining on the tv. Steve slowly peeled off the bandaid with his left hand, his right rubbing her back as she winced at the adhesive pulling at her skin. "shhhhh," he whispered to soothe her. "it's okay."

"it's healing pretty good. i don't think you need this anymore," he said gesturing to the bandaid, and tossing it in the garbage beside her desk. "does it still hurt?" he asked, and she shrugged. "does that mean sometimes?" he asked, and received a nod.

"i'm sorry it still hurts." he said, still rubbing her back. "i promised you that you would feel no more pain, and i'm going to fulfill that promise." she sniffled, and Steve looked over at the teenager.

"everything hurts." she said through her tears, and Steve hugged her closer. her head found a home in his neck, and she continued to cry. "i just want to curl up in a ball so that i don't have to face a world where he doesn't exist." she sobbed, and Steve began to rock her slowly.

"i know, honey." he said into her hair. she cuddled closer, her forehead pressing to his neck, and he tugged her into his lap. that was something that him and Thor realized about her, was that she liked to feel pressure, especially the pressure of arms squeezing around her. Steve wrapped his arms around her tightly, and felt her calm down. "and i know what your answer to my question is going to be, but i want you to wait until i'm finished to answer, okay?"
