I woke up on the couch where I fell asleep watching tv because I couldn't sleep after what Caden had told me. I honestly am not entirely sure how to help her, she was definitely going to be the end of my career if I can't help her. She's very troubled and I haven't dealt with severity like hers, and definitely not very experienced. Heck, this wasn't even the job I want, but it had to be this way. My thoughts are interrupted by the growling of my stomach. I head to the kitchen to fix up something to eat and pull out a chair to sit.
It isn't too long until Caden comes downstairs.
"Goodmorning." I say. In return I get a small smile that faded too quickly.
"Did you sleep well?" I ask.
"Kind of, it was difficult to sleep after all that happened yesterday, but also because of all the things that I found laying around in your room. They made me uncomfortable." She says shyly.
"What things??" I ask ignoring how she brought up yesterday.
"Um I think its best if you just went up to have a look for yourself."
I start to make my way towards my room and start to look around carefully. What could she have seen to make her uncomfortable? I take a closer look and see that there's a bag on top of my nightstand beside my bed. Which is strange because I didn't leave it there. Then I remember that its the bag of sex toys that Calum and Michael bought for me for my birthday as a joke.
Some of them fell out onto the floor. I never used them because they were dildos, and I ain't about that life. Damn, why'd they have to buy so many?? I take put them in the bag and take it downstairs to throw them away, and Caden sees. Her eyes widen and she starts to back away from me. I stop in my tracks and give her a questioning look.
"I'm sorry, I was just looking for some tissues last night. It was an accident, I shouldn't have gone through your things." She says, tearing up a little.
"Its fine. I don't think you need to be punished for something you didn't mean to do. Unless you think you deserve a punishment." I say chuckling a little.
"Oh no, no please don't punish me. I'm a good girl, I'll be a good girl." She says on the verge of crying.
"Relax, it was poor word choice. I'm sorry I shouldn't have said what I said. No one is getting punished." I say walking towards her.
I try to walk closer to comfort her like I had the other day, but she stumbles back away from me. Then I realized I still have the bag in my hand. I toss it away and show her both of my hands to assure her that I mean no harm.
"When I first saw them in your room, I didn't realize what they were until I pulled one out of the bag. Once I did, I just started to cry harder than I already had been. I thought that, I thought that you were going to come back into the room and use them on me." She said as she began to cry.
"Shh, its ok I would never. To tell you the truth, Calum and Michael bought them for me as a joke. I stashed them away in my nightstand and forgot they were there until now. I haven't touched them since then." I say.
"Just to make it clear I'm not afraid of them like a phobia, I'm just afraid of getting... abused with them." She explains.
"So you've used them yourself before?" I ask.
"Yes and I've had others um use it on me. They hurt me. I thought you were going to do the same when I told you."
"No, you don't have to worry. I wouldn't hurt you with them. Remember I'm here to help."
"Right, thank you. I'm sorry about earlier."
"Don't be, we're making progress, that's good. Now how about you finish eating and I take you home?"
"I'm not sure if I want to go home just yet."
"Caden, I'm sure your grand-"
"She can wait." She cuts me off.
"Ok then what did you have in mind?" I ask curiously.
"I was hoping we could get ice cream." She say smiling at me.
"That sounds like a good idea."
*********************************
We arrive at the ice cream shop and no surprise, Calum and Michael are behind the counter. We greet each other like any other day and order some ice cream. Caden took a sit while I paid.
"So how was it?" Calum asks with a smirk.
"I told you, she was just staying at my place for the night. She's a patient, I don't sleep with patients."
"Ok, ok. So does that mean I can take a shot?"
"No." I say strictly.
"Oh c'mon why not?"
"Because I said so." I say leaving to go sit down with Caden. Shortly we are joined by Calum and Michael.
"So, I uh found your little gift you got Luke." Caden says to Calum and Michael. They both laugh.
"Oh did you now?" Michael asks. Caden nods.
"How were they?" Calum asks and the two of them laugh.
"I wouldn't know, I was hoping the two of you could tell me." She shoots back. The both of them start to calm their laughter and I begin to laugh.
"You're good, but not good enough." Michael says squinting his eyes.
"Good enough for what?" I say butting into the conversation now.
"I don't know, I heard it in a movie." He says and were all laughing now.
"Ok well I think it's time I took Caden home now." I say and the two groan.
The drive back to her grandma's was quite long on quiet. There wasn't even any music playing. I didn't bother to turn it on because I thought it would have made it awkward somehow. She just sat there looking out the window the entire time, not making eye contact with me. When I finally pulled up into the drive way she opened the car door and walked out, closing the door and walking towards the house. Just like that, she rang the doorbell and was pulled into the arms of her grandma. Her grandma waved a thank you and shut the door.
She said no goodbye or thank you when she left and made no eye contact whatsoever. I cannot figure this girl out. Just moments before she was smiling and laughing and then the next thing you know, she won't even look at you or say a word to you. I'm starting to think she might be bipolar or just moody. I can't figure it out. Just when I think that we're getting somewhere, we come back to where we started. She just keeps getting more complicated to figure out as the days go by.
