"I wish I could come boo, but I haven't found anyone to look after Mani yet" I say on FaceTime with one of my closest friends Maya who has invited me to some launch party.
"Can't your mom look after him"
"No she can't, I told you she's back at work. Plus she's a nurse, she does a lot of night shifts. So nope."
"Uhg anyways, let me go get ready. I was about to hook you up on some fine ass men."
"Well ma'am I don't need no man. The only man in my life is Jesus. Obashata." I say raising my hand up and we both burst out in laughter. "So who are you gonna go with now?"
"Well, I was already planning to go with Mike and-" she says referring to her on & off boyfriend
"Wait, Mike? What the fuck are you still doing with Mike? You told me you broke up with him."
"Jay, his trying. His apologized for everything and I forgave him." She says softly. "And you didn't even think of telling me this?"
"Uhm, I was gonna tell you when the time was right"
"So you just gonna forgive him just like that? Not only did he cheat on you but he recorded a whole sex tape without you knowing and released it & now you just gonna forgive him just like that?" I say as I feel myself get mad.
"Jayda this is my life. I can do whatever I feel like doing. And if I want to bring Mike back into my life I will. So stop butting in" she says snapping at me.
"Well I'm sorry for being such a concerned friend. But I'm not about to watch you get hurt again."
"Well don't worry bout me Jayda. I'm doing just fine and I'll be extra careful. So chill." She says rolling her eyes. "You know what? I'ma call you back when you in your right state of mind. Cause I know damn well you ain't rolling your eyes at me" I say to her and end up cutting the call.
Crazy ass.
Throwing my phone on the bed, proceeding to leave the room my phone starts ringing. Without checking the caller ID I grab my phone and answer the call.
"What do you want?" I say playfully rolling my eyes thinking it's Maya who has called me back.
"Jayda" I hear a deep voice echo through the phone and I instantly recognise who it is.
"Cameron?" I say in utter shock and without thinking twice, I cut the call & quickly block the number. Not even after a minute of cutting the call, & there are loud knocks on the door which frighten me a bit.
"Who is it?" I ask walking up to the door and there is no response. Without looking through the hole on the door, I open it and I see my son's deadbeat dad standing in front of me.
"Cam-Cameron?"
"In the flash baby"
"What the hell are you doing here, how did you find me, how-"
" Can you just let me in..."
"There is no way in hell I'm gonna do that. Not today not ever!"
"I just want to see my son Jayda" he says looking into my eyes seriously. "Oh so now you remember you have a son. After a year & three months you now remember you have a child? Huh?" I say loudly accidentally waking Mani up.
"Now look what you've done. It took me hours to put him to sleep" I say leaving him at the door to go fetch Mani. Taking him out of his bed, making my way into the kitchen to make him a bottle I see Cameron seated in my living room.
"I never said you could come in" I say eyeing him seriously. "Is that him" he says standing up and walking towards me. "Can I hold him" he says never leaving his eyes off of him.
"He doesn't really react well to strangers. His gonna cry" I said honestly.
"Just for a minute"
"Fine." I say rolling my eyes. "Hold him properly. You gonna break his neck" I said putting the baby carefully in his arms. "There you go" I said as I watched him look down on Mani. "See, his not crying. He loves me"
"You barely even know him. " I said as I continued to make the bottle. "Give him here" I said to Cameron after finishing making the bottle. "I know how to feed a baby" he said looking up at me from his seat.
"Oh you do?" I said giving him the bottle. "Yes I do, I got a kid"
"Wow, okay" I said shocked not knowing what else to say. He sure did move on fast. "How old?" I ask in curiosity.
"She's 2 years old"
"Born 2019?" I ask and he nods his head.
Wait what— We dated in 2018 & he left me in 2020.... How is it possible that– Trying to make sense of it all in my head I come to the realisation that he had a kid after he cheated on me.
"Bro you cheated on me & couldn't even tell me you have a kid?" I ask seriously and he looks at me in confusion. "We not together"
"Stop acting dumb bruh. How the fuc–hell do you have a 2 year old child who was born in 2019 and we were dating in that same year nigga?"
"Bro you tripping"
"Yeah you right, I'm tripping. I honestly don't know why I'm wasting my energy on you."
"Give me my son" I say not wanting to get into an argument with him. "Give me my son! He does not need this bad energy around him so please just get out." I say taking Mani out of arms.
"Get out bruh"
"Come on, it happened a long time ago Jay."
"Come on Jay...I still love you"
"Bro get out, I don't want to hear a single thing that comes out of your mouth because you're a liar and will never change"
"Jay, I just want to have a relationship with my son...please"
"After so long, now you realize you have a son...my son? Nigga you were never there now you decide to rock up here uninvited and God knows where the hell you got my address from and you talking about you want a relationship with my son?" I say as I feel myself voice Crack. I'm about to cry.
"Baby...I mean Jay. I'm sorry okay. And I won't stop to show you how sorry I am. I wanna be there for my son. I've realized my mistake and I want to rectify that...okay"
"Cam please just go, we'll talk...okay. It's fine. You can be in my son's life. I don't want my child growing up without a father so it's fine. Please just get out, I don't want you here. You're bringing back so many bad memories and I really don't want to think about that right now. It took me so long to get out the hellhole you put me in and I'm not going to allow you to put me back in. So please..." I say opening the door for him to leave.
"I get you Jay, but please give me a chance. Call me" he says as he exits my apartment and I quickly lock the door.
