The Indian Medical Council Screening Test, also known as the Foreign Medicine Alumni Exam (FMGE), is an entrance exam conducted by the National Examination Board of India (NBE). This test is one of the essential requirements for Indian citizens with a medical degree from a university outside India to practise medical care in the country. The MCI exam is compulsory for Indian students who have completed MBBS from abroad. The MCI screening test was first introduced in 2002 for Indian students with medical degrees from countries other than India, including Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgystan, China, Bangladesh, Barbados, the Philippines and the Caribbean.
Why do students who have completed MBBS from abroad need to pass the MCI exam?
1. Students who have completed MBBS from abroad and want to continue practicing in India are required to take the MCI exam to start their professional life in India. If you pass this exam, you will be equal with someone who has an MBBS in India.
2. MCI screening test is performed to confirm basic concepts, common sense, application of concepts, and the ability to confirm time management. This exam does not cover all the details of MBBS study materials. This test is only used to ensure that you are familiar with the core data.
3. There is no limit to the number of times you can take this exam. The minimum requirement for a candidate to pass the MCI screening test is 50% of the points.
