//TW: Nightmare, panic, heavy arguing, burning/fire, implied/descriptions of death(s)WORD COUNT: 974
Third Person POV: Sapnap orientated
It has been four days now since Quackity's death. The days merged together like a heavy rope twisting around Karl and Sapnap's hearts; unknown to them where the rope truly began, or even how long it would be until it ended. Between the two, the rope was pulling a confused Karl deep in the pits of depression, while for Sapnap, it was a painful reminder as to what he had done.
Sleep began the cruel task of drawing Sapnap under: forcing him to relive that fateful day. He barely registered how tightly Karl clung to his side as his nightmares overtook him.
The smaller, shivering boy pressed even closer to Sapnap's body at the subconscious knowledge that another man was no longer there on the other side to hug him back.
--------------
... "Quackity! Just shut up! You've made us feel as guilty as we possibly can at this point, for not getting the message to you sooner about Kinoko Kingdom. I mean, where was your message to us about Las Nevadas? I've tried explaining to you that I didn't know about Karl's condition before I gave him the task to tell you. I thought you blew us off!"
Sapnap and Quackity had the misfortune of running into each other in the Nether. They had stood there - arguing - on a platform over the lava, forgetting the reasons they had ventured there in the first place.
"You have to understand how this feels for me, though, Sapnap." Quackity begged desperately, regardless how his tone could better be described as apathetic. "El Rapids had been torn apart by Dream. My- Our best friend, George, and my two fiancés almost seemed to fall off the edge of the world along with it. So, I decided to start a new project for us; just in case whenever I saw you guys again, I could have something to offer and it would be like El Rapids was never gone, but just...upgraded, and I could reunite with the three other people who meant the literal world to me, Sapnap. But of course, it was too much to ask for. Just too much to ask for."
All might have passed over, if they had left it at that. Yet, Quackity pushed it.
"Putting everything else aside, I just want to say how low you've fallen, Sapnap. Karl is not someone to use as an excuse. If you had worried enough, you would have scoured the very earth for me yourself. I bet Karl's just fine. I bet he never even thinks about me. I bet you three never even mention my name. I bet I'm as good as dead to you, anyway."
Sapnap's veins slowly lit up as lava began to flow through them. His skin grew warm rapidly, and his eyes shone orange.
"HOW DARE YOU, QUACKITY. You haven't been there to make such...such accusations! We tried to keep your name alive as much as possible, until it hurt to even think of you. We have every single photo we took with you and us, hanging up in our houses. Now I'm the last one there who seems to remember you and it hurts. George is all messed up by Dream and I don't see him anymore. Last time I checked on him he was still breathing, but he's got these...these vines and mushrooms sprouting on and around him - taking over him! He's trapped in his sleep, Quackity! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS TO WATCH AND KNOW THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO! And- And- And then Karl...?" His eyes had started to leak as lava streaked down his cheeks. "He- He's forgetting almost everything. He clings to me 'cause he just knows he knows me. Anytime I can get him out of bed I go through the photos of us together and only tell him the happy memories of you and us. He asks where you went and I just tell him you've gone away for a bit but you love him and will be back soon. IT HURTS, QUACKITY. I'M LEFT DEALING WITH THIS ON MY OWN."
His breathing was ragged, fists clenched, and heat radiating off him so much so, the Nether seemed cold in comparison.
"S-Sapnap...aha...maybe calm down there, buddy." Quackity backed up with his wings shaking behind his back and hands held up as a weak defense against his fire-consumed ex-fiancé.
"YOU KNOW WHAT, QUACKITY? MAYBE YOU'RE RIGHT. MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER AND HURT LESS IF YOU REALLY. WERE. DEAD."
With that, Sapnap hurled himself at the terrified duck-hybrid and grabbed him - both tumbling into the lava below them.
"SAPNAP! NO-"
The two had longed for an embrace for so long.
But not like this.
Not like this.
-----------------
Sapnap woke up with a start, still vividly feeling the molten lava and his fiancé burning up within his grasp.
After a few seconds, he realised something: that feeling was not going away.
His eyes snapped open and what they showed him made him hyperventilate to the point of wanting to be sick.
"NO! KARL!" his voice felt like it was tearing itself up; begging for his fiancé to wake up and give him a big smile and they'd hug and Sapnap would make breakfast and they would go back through their happy memories and Karl would fall asleep with him on the lounge watching cartoons after a rewarding day of making progress on his condition-
Yet, the burning bed, burning room, burning house would never allow that. Karl would never smile again. He had spent his last few hours latching onto the very person who was to kill him.
"Karl... Karl, no..." Sap cried tears of water now, the contrast between the two substances leaving flecks of obsidian on his fiancé's charred skin.
Quackity...and now Karl...
Sapnap's emotions had ended them both.
