Melanie looks around her apartment and gets down on her knees, crying out to God. How did her life turn out like this? She had such vision. And now? She was pregnant, divorced, and homeless and all before she was 21. How did she end up like this? Where was God in her life? Why didn't he change her course in life?
Then she feels a cool breeze brush her skin. She looks up, surprised. What the...? She looks at the window but its closed. She looks down back at her hands. But the breeze comes back and this time a voice says, "I'm with you always. I have never left you, my dear. Rest in my arms and you'll find peace."
Melanie again looks around, startled. She looks up and throws her hands up. She smiles at the roof, knowing God was speaking to her. She cries out to him and praises him. God would see her through. She didn't understand everything but she knew now that he was there. Always. She could get through anything with God by her side.
Adam looks out the window of his car longingly. He wanted to be with Melanie but he couldn't mess up his life. He had everything planned out. And he was finally free from the mistakes of his past. He had the divorce, he had his dream career, and he had the perfect fiancé. What more could he want? And why did he feel empty and alone? Why couldn't he get rid of this guilt he had?
He looks at Annemarie, his fiancé, and smiles. But his smile is fake. He wasn't happy and nothing could change that. He was a horrible person. Would he ever get over the feelings of guilt over how he treated Melanie? Did he deserve to?
Annemarie smiles and takes his hand. She says sweetly, "Just think. In a few months, we'll be married. Finally, we'll be together."
Adam gulps but nods his head and kisses her. They'll be together but would they happy? He wasn't so sure.
Annemarie can tell Adam isn't fully engaged in there relationship. It's not just what he says because he says all the right things. It's the way he acts when he says them. He acts like its a chore to be with her, like he's being forced to.
But he's not. He chose to leave his wife and start over. And if he did the honorable thing and went back to her, she would be hurt sure. But she'd respect him more. She didn't want to marry him, either. But she was doing this for her parents. They needed this.
Adam knows that Annemarie wasn't in love with him. She was doing this for her parents.
But it still hurt. He had left everything for her. The woman of his dreams and there life together. And for what? A career? A marriage with a woman who didn't love him back? What the heck had he done?!
Melanie wakes up the next day feeling refreshed and ready for whatever life threw at her. She had a merciful, powerful, and loving God on her side. She could handle anything life threw at her.
But it still hurt that Adam didn't want to be married to her anymore. He chose Annemarie, a woman he was not in love with, over her. No, he chose wealth over her. And he wouldn't be happy. Money couldn't make you happy. She could have made him happy and they could have had a good life. Not a perfect life but a good one. Why did he have to be so stubborn?
Adam really wants to go to Melanie. She was his true love but she wasn't good for his career. Annemarie was the one who would help him obtain a senate position.
But why, if it was so right, did his choice feel so wrong?
Melanie goes to her lawyers to sign the divorce papers. If Adam wanted to leave her, she wouldn't fight. She couldn't change his heart or his mind. He wanted wealth and stature over a family. Only time would tell whether he'd be happy. But she knew that he wouldn't be. But only God could change his heart. All she could do was love him and pray for his soul. The rest was up to God.
