Carter's POV
"Mom, it's time for us to leave. I need to get to the airport so I don't miss my flight." I yelled from the front door.
"Hon, we will be there on time I swear." Mom said from the living room.
"Okay, mom." I say as I head to the car. Then I begin speculating about the new beginning that is in front of me. I'm heading to boot camp. I'm heading to Virginia to start my training and then who knows maybe I'll be able to go into the submarine training after that.
I whispered "Hopefully" to myself as I snapped out of my deep thoughts. Only to realize my mom is already in the car.
She turns to me and asks "are you okay?" With a concerned look on her face.
"Yeah mom I'm okay, only a little distracted is all." I quickly responded
She shakes it off "okay hun" she says as a small smile appears on her face as she glances over at me. I smile back, trying not to allow the slight hint of worry to show through.
The rest of the car ride to the airport is quiet and calm, As is the walk with my mom to my gate for boarding.
I turn to look at my mom as tears start to form in her eyes as I get in line to board.
She then comes up to me and gives me a hug saying "I love you and please try to stay safe." As I hold my mom tight I say to her "I love you too. I will make sure I come back to you in one piece mom." and we stand there for a little while just hugging until I say "I'm sorry mom but it is time for me to go." She looks up at me wipes her tears and then says "you're right, I love you." As I board the plane I look back at my mom and wave, then I go take my seat.
