We were in the car on the way to Daisy's house, Fallingford. Alexander was sitting beside me staring at a letter. "Is that a letter from Hazel?" I asked. Alex looked up, seeming to not have heard what I said so I repeated what I said. "Oh - right - um, no."He stuttered, a pink hue creeping up his cheek. "It's just a letter I was going to send her but I decided not to." Obviously, I was intrigued. Why did he not send it? What could possibly be on it? But before I could ask, he put it away and changed the subject. "I wonder what Daisy's house looks like. Hazel said it has a maze!"
**********
The car turned and we saw a gate. "We must be here!" I exclaimed. Once the car stopped I stepped out immediately and looked up at the house. It was the biggest house I have ever seen. It was that type of house that looked as old as time itself but also as elegant as a swan. The windows were like mirrors reflecting the sun and the light blue sky. It felt like something that would only exist in a book.
In one of the window I saw Daisy and Hazel peering out at us. I smiled at them and then stuck my head back in the car. "Alex! Are you going to come out or do you want to just sit there and think about Hazel instead of actually seeing her?" I said mockingly before coming back out.
Alex finally got out and looked around the house in awe. "Look up there. You can see Hazel and Daisy staring at us!" I said as I pointed in their direction. As soon as he saw them he gave them his usual cheery grin and waved. The door of the house opened and there was Daisy's Uncle Felix and Aunt Lucy. I didn't expect them to be here. I thought it was just going to be Daisy's parents and the girls. "Ah, George, Alexander! Do come in!" Aunt Lucy said as she grimaced inside. We did as she said and came inside.
"How are you two?" Uncle Felix said. "The girls have gotten themselves involved in another murder and this time they dragged the new girl into it but Hazel probably wrote to you about it." "Oh she did. It was a very interesting case. If only we were there." I replied and right after I said that, I saw Hazel and Daisy run down the stairs into the hall where we were standing. It was so good to see them again. "Ah, there are the girls now." Uncle Felix said turning to them. There was a huge smile on my face. Alexander ran past me. "Hazel!" he shouted as he ran up to her and gave her a bone crushing hug. I caught Hazel's eye and smirked at her. She started blushing. "I missed you!" Alex said, still hugging Hazel. Hazel was starting to get flustered now. "Oh, I - I missed you too." she replied.
I walked up to Daisy who was visibly offended that Alex had ran straight to Hazel and didn't acknowledge her. "How do you feel that we solved another murder without your help?" Daisy asked teasingly. "Not the greatest but I hear that you had help from the new girl. Amina, was it?" I replied. I wasn't going to let her get away with this and by the look on Daisy's face, it worked. Also, did I see Daisy blush for a split second? I was probably mistaken but if I wasn't and she actually did blush...
By this point Hazel and Alex had stopped hugging and were awkwardly standing there. "Come on, let's go upstairs. We've got so much stuff to tell you but Hazel has probably told you most of it in her letters." Daisy said and just as she was about to go up the stairs Uncle Felix said, "Now, before you all head upstairs to surely talk about murder and detecting, you need to all promise me that you won't go about trying to find anything to detect. I want a peaceful summer, not one spending most of my time running about after you cleaning up your mess." Daisy had a look of utter horror on her face. "One, we do not make a mess. Two, we won't promise anything." She replied and continued her way up the stairs. We all followed after her and I saw Hazel and Alexander mouthing sorry to Aunt Lucy and Uncle Felix.
